Meh, just felt like Talking:Alot JayKeaton 12:20, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'Alot' is not in the Oxford English Dictionary. The correct term is 'a lot'. I am undoing the most recent edit because of this. Sylosin 15:40, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:INDIA Banner/Madhya Pradesh workgroup Addition[edit]

{{WP India}} with Madhya Pradesh workgroup parameters was added to this article talk page because the article falls under Category:Madhya Pradesh or one of its subcategories. Should you feel this addition is inappropriate , please undo my changes and update/remove the irrelavent categories to the article -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 09:27, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

– Very common misspelling of "a lot". No primary topic. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 02:43, 21 September 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. Natg 19 (talk) 01:46, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support I would not even say its completely a misspelling (which I would be reluctant to account) but may even be (even if not really correct) a plausible alternative for "a lot". Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:01, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. WP:SMALLDETAILS, and a misspelling is not really that "small" of a detail, in comparison to, say, merely differences in capitalization or diacritics. Also, we're not dealing with the generic phrase "a lot", which isn't an actual article topic, but a particular 2018 song "A Lot" which truly isn't spelled "Alot". Adumbrativus (talk) 09:16, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. While it's true that "alot" is a common misspelling of "a lot", there isn't a Wikipedia article about the phrase "a lot" – the closest things are A Lot (song) (which is already disambiguated) and a link to Wiktionary. There's no content that this article needs to be disambiguated from. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 14:58, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. There's no other article using the title. And even if there were an article titled a lot, an encyclopedia should not favor misspellings over correct spellings. Station1 (talk) 02:16, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. As WP:CRITERIA instructs, "the choice of article titles should put the interests of readers before those of editors, and those of a general audience before those of specialists." It's tough to imagine that any readers would correctly identify the current title as referring to a small town in western Madhya Pradesh (which Google Maps identifies as "Alote"), or that anyone but certain Wikipedia editors would ever consider the unclarified form to be the better title. Adding the state unquestionably helps the reader. ╠╣uw [talk] 10:27, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. "Alot" is mentioned on the article for Hyperbole and a Half, making it a valid redirect target / primary topic contender. In fact, that's probably the most common encyclopedic meaning for a correctly spelled "Alot" in English-speaking countries outside of India. We have no primary topic here. -- King of ♥ 00:15, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
