Alpha Betas renamed ABCO . . . .[edit]

In 1984, all 34 Alpha Beta stores in Arizona were sold to ABCO Foods, and the stores continued operating under the Alpha Beta name.[1] . In Tucson, Alpha Beta-branded stores changed to ABCO-branded stores around 1989.

I grew up in the Mesa/Tempe/Chandler area, and I clearly remember all the Alpha Betas in my area being renamed "ABCO". It kind of broke my twelve-year-old heart, because Alpha-Beta was my favorite grocery store. I loved the old name and the logo, with it's excitingly squarish letters. "ABCO" was an uglier name and much less fun to look at. Unfortunately, it seems to be my word against the New York Times's. But Mesa was one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. during the 80s, so there must be plenty of people who also remember this! Please speak up right away! This is a matter of vital importance!  ;) --63.25.75.205 (talk) 00:47, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really seeing a conflict between your claim, and what's claimed in the article. I used to shop at an Alpha Beta in Los Gatos, California, during the 1970s. KevinOKeeffe (talk) 04:04, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Um, yeah. I'm sure someone out there must share your excitement for the shape of the letters in the sign.PacificBoy 23:28, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I did some quick copy edits, but this article needs help. A few facts are scattered willy-nilly throughout a dry history of the company's many name changes. I added the "multiple issues" tag; hopefully somebody with more info can add material beyond what's here.PacificBoy 23:28, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alpha Beta renamed Lucky in SoCal[edit]

My recollection is confirmed by this LA Times article that Alpha Beta stores were renamed Lucky
