Myles

I think Myles should be referred to as the lead vocalists and guitarist. It isnt accurate to call him the rhythm guitarist anymore. While Mark is the lead guitarist for sure Myles' guitar duties are more then just a rhythm guitarists. When he first started with them he was but ever since Blackbird hes been really inbetween rhythm and lead guitar and I think he should be put as simply guitarist until explained later in the page. Unless someone gives me a reason otherwise I am going to remove "rhythm". Putting just guitarist does not imply anything other then he plays guitar but putting rhythm guitar implies he plays in the traditional rhythm guitar way which his playing for Alter Bridge really lies in between lead and rhythm guitar.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.130.166.48 (talk) 06:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

He's the rhythm guitarist. Every rhythm player plays some lead. 63.248.26.218 (talk) 18:53, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

That is not true. Plenty of rhythm players actually most don't play any leads. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fatguyinchair3 (talkcontribs) 02:57, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Unnecessary

I found this statement right under the discography: "alter bridge is gay." Someone's not too bright, it was posted by:69.255.147.168

Odd Sentence

Alter Bridge is also responsible for the 2005 Royal Rumble theme song, "Find the Real."

Does that not kind of make it sound like it is a bad thing...

I don't think so, it's like when you say an artist is responsible for the #1 song of the year. TJ Spyke 21:58, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

WHY KEEP COMPARING AB WITH CREED?

Maybe the band will be able to get out of the shadows of Creed if we stop COMPARING the two bands

When two bands have the same members(other than the lead singer) then you will have people comparing them. TJ Spyke 21:57, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I'd have to disagree. Audioslave gets compared much less to Rage Against The Machine then Alter Bridge does to Creed. - Ecksem Diem 05:30, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm a fan of both bands, and, in my opinion, they're much different. But it happens that when I introduce some Alter songs to people who have never heard it, the first thing they say is "whoa, it sounds a lot like Creed" whithout even knowing the band's Line-up. Maybe it's a difference only fans can tell (I'm talking lyrical/Instrumental, the difference between Scott's voice and Myle's is obvious)
  • Alter Bridge are nothing like Creed, and it's absoloutely ridiculous that they should be compared against Creed. It's like comparing potatos to peas.

They're completely different. I'm indifferent to Creed but am a massive fan of Alter Bridge. If someone has completely different opinions about them they can't be that alike. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.88.6.104 (talk) 05:53, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Alter Bridge a "Supergroup"?

Uh... I don't think so... Daniel Villalobos 16:59, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Hardly a supergroup. AcilletaM 05:50, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Just because they've been in another band doesn't make them a supergroup. --Ortzinator 15:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Creed were huge. As all of the members of the band were at one point or another, other than Myles, in Creed, how could they NOT be considered a supergroup? Creed are hugely famous. James25402 18:47, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Whole Thing Should Be Scrapped

This article as a whole is very poorly written. Short choppy sentances, personal opinions made to sound like fact, weasel words, un-seperated information section, band promotion, and absolutely no supporting sources to back up anything that is stated in the article...this one has it all, folks. Someone with knowledge of the band really needs to sweep through and write something that's informative and useful, rather than what appears to be a quasi-advertisiment written by someone with a 4th grade writing proficiency.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.118.151.127 (talk) .

Genre in the article Intro

I put that Alter Bridge is a hard rock band in the intro sentence. This is easily defined and should be pretty much acceptable to anyone who has listened to them. Some people have chosen to further pigeonhole them into further subcategories such as Alternative Metal or Post-Grunge, but these would be better addressed later in the article instead of the intro since neither sub-genre is readily recognized. --FitzTheMariner 02:07, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad

Does anyone know where i can download this song?

This song is fake and is a hoax. I am sure you saw this on Ultimate-Guitar.com, well this song isnt true. It is fake. Alter Bridge did no such work. 75.85.231.127 23:49, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Then why is there a video of Alter Bridge playing this very song? http://youtube.com/watch?v=HKFfR8mgEXQ The beginning is not Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad but this is a live performance of it. I dont know why you would think the song is a fake. Its very real.--Shardsoffork 21:25, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

This song is real. The magazine provided the tab and the CD for the music. Youtube as well as bit torrents have the song available. They have worked it into a couple of live sets. NMBJ69 (talk) 02:41, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Record Sales

The record sales for One Day Remains outside of the United States keeps saying 3,000,000. This has been refuted multiple times by the band in interviews. I have seen it corrected but then it always goes back to 3,000,000. I am not sure who is providing the incorrect figures.

Rock Louder's Chris Leonard interviewed the band and this is what they said:

"RL: Your debut 'One Day Remains' sold around 3 million world wide is that right? Myles: Haha, I wish!!

RL: Well that's what we got from the internet! Myles: Really? Wow! Well you know it's funny, there's so many stupid numbers around about album sales and stuff. Mark: I think it's actually about 750,000."

RL= Rock Louder (Chris Leonard) Myles = Myles Kennedy (singer/guitar player) Mark = Mark Tremonti (guitar player)

On a completely related topic, Alter bridge is touring with Disturbed. I don't have any source, but I could probably take a photo of my ticket or something.210.215.75.4 (talk) 07:15, 9 July 2008 (UTC) p.s tildes is a funny word.

The current title image shows the band with some random dude. I think a promo picture of the band would be much better, yes? Furthermore, it originally had the order of the band members wrong. I edited to make the order correct and account for the unknown guy taking a pic with them in the middle of the photo. Genre in the lead sentence

Some editor, who goes by different IPs but is obviously the same guy, keeps changing the lead section to say AB are an "alt metal" band.

While "alternative metal" is one of their styles, it shouldn't be stated right there in the lead section.

  • "Alt metal" is just one of their styles, and it's not the most prominent. They are mostly a hard rock band.
  • It is good practice not to pigeonhole a band's genre right there in the first sentence; doing so usually results in edit wars by genre warriors. The lead should be kept simple and general, as their exact style can be found later in the article and in the infobox.
  • "Rock" covers all bases - hard rock, punk, pop rock, every metal subgenre, so it is perfectly fine and preferable to use this term in the lead sentence.

So please, cease adding "alternative metal" in the lead section. Thanks. 121.222.179.94 (talk) 06:11, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

NPOV dispute of Musical style and influences

I have added a POV dispute tag to this section because the section has some claims of questionable neutrality. For example:

  • "Alter Bridge's music is heavier and more technical"
  • "[Alter Bridge's music] is characterized by the blend of guitar and overall musical styles between Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti"
  • "the band is known for combining a heavy, aggressive sound with a strong melody"
  • "the band has become known for intricate, progressive songwriting and dark lyrics"
  • "Alter Bridge is also known for their live performances, which are very popular especially in Europe, as they do more variations than their original songs while performing live."
  • "Tremonti, known for his shredding guitar style"
  • "their third album, a concept album"

These claims are clearly biased. This section makes claims that I have never seen anywhere, and not everyone would necessarily agree with. Alter Bridge isn't really heavy metal or progressive metal (heavy metal is like Opeth), and I don't think they are "very popular" - considering none of their songs have even reached the overall top 10 anywhere, and their best selling album has only sold 750,000 copies worldwide. Bobertoq (talk) 07:36, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

I think the section is much better now. Bobertoq (talk) 07:35, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Heavy metal is like Opeth??? Hahaha...Opeth are extreme metal, you don't need to be as heavy as them to be heavy metal.
However, I agree with you that a lot of those claims were biased and the article is better without them. James25402 (talk) 12:12, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Surely we can call them a supergroup now?

Everyone but Myles was in Creed, which really should make them a supergroup already, but with Myles' notoriety touring with and fronting Slash's solo band, surely this now allows Alter Bridge to qualify? James25402 (talk) 12:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Only if any reliable sources call them as such. Sergecross73 msg me 17:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
A supergroup is usually put together for the sake of money and consists of highly notable musicians. Creed is a notable band and Myles Kennedy is, as of 2010 (and arguably since 2008 thanks to the Led Zeppelin rumor), a notable singer, but I would never consider AB a supergroup. 63.248.11.9 (talk) 15:27, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

alter bridge count as heavy metal

why is alter bridge count as heavy metal they are not heavy metal, they are hard rock, post grunge and alternative Metal — Preceding ojmendez818 comment added by Ojmendez818 (talkcontribs) 03:48, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

"they are not heavy metal" - What is this based on exactly? If you can provide a source, other than your own opinion, stating that they are not heavy metal, then the genre can be removed. HrZ (talk) 12:07, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
There is a reliable reference saying that they are indeed a heavy metal band. Until you find a source saying otherwise, the genre will stay. Live Light (talk) 04:52, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Alternative Rock

I would consider some of their stuff as alternative rock. But I didn't want to make any changes without seeing what other people thought. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 05:58, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Could be wrong, but doesnt alternative metal cover that already? From the genre articles lead: "Alternative metal is a genre of heavy metal and alternative rock that gained popularity in the early 1990s." HrZ (talk) 14:04, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I agree with HrZ, alternative metal covers that. 63.248.11.9 (talk) 21:49, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

A minor issue in the lead

It states "Despite Creed's multi-platinum success, Alter Bridge arose with only gold status with their first album." I don't see the relevance in this. If there are sources stating that Alter Bridge were expected to achieve the same success as Creed with their debut album, then it should stay. Though not a big issue, to me it seems to be pointing out the former's success over the latter's lack of it (at that time). HrZ (talk) 14:27, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

There were some people (especially the people at Wind-up Records) who were expecting One Day Remains to become very successful, which it did but not compared to Creed at all. I think it should stay. 63.248.11.9 (talk) 16:11, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Is there a source for this though? It should be made clear that the label were expecting the album to be successful because of Creed's own success. Otherwise it kind falls into original research. If there is no source then it really should be removed. What do you think? HrZ (talk) 16:54, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

activism

i dont really understand this section. i wouldnt really call raising money for cancer research activism, activism would be more like protests and stuff against the government/businesses - which is clearly not what this section is referring to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.20.201.105 (talk) 16:49, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Activism is not "protests and stuff against the government/business." According to Wikipedia, activism "consists of intentional efforts to bring about social, political, economic, or environmental change," which clearly fits here. 63.248.26.218 (talk) 16:09, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Alter Bridge lead

Seems the editors who are quick to revert are not quick to reply to a message so I'll post here. The current lead I believe didn't include the important facts on the band's career, was more general, included unnecessary info and, in all honesty, poorly written. Some examples:

  • "the band members spent the next year and a half working on other projects before reconvening in early 2010 to work on their third album" + "The individual members of Alter Bridge are also involved with various other projects, including solo and session work, Creed, and Kennedy's collaborations with Slash and former members of Led Zeppelin." - Two separate mentions of projects, only projects mentioned are Creed (which is arguably more than a project) then Kennedy's collaboration with Slash and Led Zep. No mention of what the solo or session work was. The Led Zep led to nothing, no released material or tour so I don't understand why it is there while other projects are not. If you are going to mention they are working on projects, you either name them all or none. They are side-projects to Alter Bridge and none are more important than others and need a mention.
  • "Tremonti named the group after an actual bridge that used to be located on Alter Road near his former home in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan." - Doesn't need to be that long, would go as far as saying it doesn't need to be included altogether.
  • "and the band has become known for its frequent and extensive touring and for its loyal fanbase." - Most bands frequently tour and most fans are loyal, but where is the sources and text within the article that state that they are loyal anyway?
  • "2004 to generally mixed reviews [...] positively received by critics [...] was a critical success [...] Alter Bridge's music has been critically successful" - Again, either one sentence to state they have had critical success, or the more acurate review of each album.
  • No mention of the successful singles "Rise Today" or "Isolation"

So I did a little re-write, using only the information included within the article body:

74.81.233.144 and User:Live Light have reverted, the only reasons being the previous version was shorter and and that not every project needs to be mention. These seem like such minor reasons for a massive revert and issues that could have easily have been resolved through discussion. HrZ (talk) 12:43, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

  • Support new version - I agree, yours seems much better written, much more like the typical Wikipedia format. The old version looks like the type of thing that was patched together over time by different editors, leading it to not flow well, and/or emphasize the wrong things. (like the once relevant Led Zep stuff, or that it refers to its "loyal fanbase", but the word fanbase doesn't occur in the article again, meaning it shouldn't be in the lead.) Sergecross73 msg me 13:33, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Ok, no response from the other two editors, either here or on their talk pages. So I'm just going to go ahead and restore the new version. Any further comments should hopefully be posted here. HrZ (talk) 14:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Re-arranged content

Alter Bridge is an American rock band from Orlando, Florida, formed in 2004. The lineup consists of Myles Kennedy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mark Tremonti (lead guitar, backing vocals), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Phillips (drums, percussion). Since their formation, there have been no line-up changes.

Following the break-up of Creed in 2004, former members Tremonti, Marshall and Phillips began working with Kennedy, formerly of The Mayfield Four. Naming the new band Alter Bridge after a bridge that once existed on Alter Road near Tremonti's former home. Since their formation, the band have released 3 studio albums: One Day Remains (2004), Blackbird (2007) and AB III (2010), with their fourth Fortress set for release in September 2013.

Often recognized for their live performances, the band generally does not perform in larger venues such as arenas and amphitheaters. Instead, Alter Bridge regularly plays smaller venues such as House of Blues, as was their intention from the start.[1] Myles Kennedy said in an interview with Artistdirect, "We're definitely a live band. That's what it's all about for us. We make records so we can go out and play for people."[2] The band has been joined on stage by several surprise guests, including Slash,[3] Paul Reed Smith,[4] Wolfgang Van Halen,[5] and Eric Friedman, and several notable musicians, such as Eddie Van Halen,[6] Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones,[7] have been reported to have attended an Alter Bridge concert. Alter Bridge's live performances are generally praised.[8]

Alter Bridge's music was received poorly by critics in the band's early years, but their first album, One Day Remains, was certified gold by theRIAA in November 2004. It is the band's only RIAA-certified album.[9] Since then, however, the band's subsequent albums have received general acclaim. The band's 2009 live album and concert film, Live from Amsterdam was also well received; it was originally released via Amazon.com, where on October 22, 2009, it rose 15,000 spots on Amazon's "Bestsellers in Music Videos & Concerts" chart in just eight hours, rising ahead of artists such as Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi to No. 1 where it remained for several weeks. This was done with no official promotion or record label support.[10] Also in late 2009, Alter Bridge was ranked by Ultimate Guitar Archive as the 36th best heavy metal band of the decade.[11]

Inclusion of Creed Navbox

I recently included Template:Creed on this page. I did this because AB is linked to in the Creed navbox. The navbox template requirements suggest that all links of a navbox also contain that navbox to satisfy WP:BIDIRECTIONAL. My edit was subsequently reverted, and I wanted to know what the opposition was. If the Creed navbox is not to be included here, then AB should not be listed in it. (Which I think it should for obvious reasons.) —DLManiac (talk) 22:21, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Fine, I comply. I will remove Alter Bridge from Creed template."

The Mad Hatter (talk)
That is not the solution. There was no discussion. And the bands SHOULD be on. Each other's navboxes as well as pages. What is your reason for them not to be?—DLManiac (talk) 18:38, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Exactly what I was saying below. There aren't many bands out there that are more deserving of this than these two. The core musicians and the main songwriter in both bands are the same people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by UtahCountryBoy (talkcontribs) 21:12, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes

I think it's pretty obvious they should both be included on each other's pages. The only way you could get two bands any closer would be to compare today's Outlaws lineup with Blackhawk, who share all the same band members. Honestly there is only one band member out of four that isn't common between these two groups. Not having AB and Creed cross-reference each other is like saying Scott Stapp and Creed shouldn't be on each other's pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by UtahCountryBoy (talkcontribs) 15:39, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

rock or metal band?

I was wondering since they are categorized as heavy metal, progressive metal, and alternative metal, wouldn't it be fine to classify Alter Bridge as a heavy metal band rather than only being classified as a rock band, or are they strictly considered a rock band?
