Sugarplum?[edit]

I came here looking for the definition of "sugarplum" as in "While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads". Yet "sugarplum" is only mentioned as an alternate name for the plant. I always assumed "sugarplums" were candied plums. This makes it sound like they are something else. What? —Ben FrantzDale (talk) 17:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Folk etymology is often convoluted. The fruit is plum in color and very sweet, probably sweet enough to crystalize when dried.

Plums in General[edit]

Serviceberries are only distantly related to plums, but the passage wherein it is remarked that it is the 'only plum with a non-bitter skin' suggests that the plant is a plum, when it is not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.52.149.165 (talk) 05:25, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photos removed[edit]

Photos of this plant were recently removed from the page by someone who didn't sign in, and who said they were not the right species. I checked with a likely taxonomist who specializes in this genus and he admitted that it was him, forgetting to sign in. More anon, no doubt. Nadiatalent (talk) 13:57, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
