do we know where it was shot, hotel, house etc, or even island?

The filming took place in California; Ms Duprez was in America and unable to return to the UK because her parents had died and she herself was flat broke after the failure of Alexander Korda's business empire, which left her unable to obtain work in Hollywood for quite some time. I am not sure whether the island shown in the film exists at all, or is a mere back painting; but the sea and cliff scenes are real California coast locations.

Mr. Rogers?[edit]

In one section of the article, it says that "Rogers slept in the woodshed". According to the dialogue and book, he slept in the washhouse. I corrected that. Am I wrong? 67.80.150.98 (talk) 17:32, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Differences from the novel[edit]

In this section, it is stated that "All in all, the end result is the same; the two major characters are left alive and innocent of the crimes they were accused of." I think there is slightly more to say. The 1945 film follows the basic outline of the 1943 play-ending, as the quote states. But in the 1945 film, the drama has a romantic plot, in which Mr Lombard/Morley and Miss Claythorne survive because they fall in love; at the critical moment, they resist the pressure to kill one another because neither can emotionally accept the apparent guilt of the other, and instead they look for an alternative and less painful explanation. They guess right, that each of them is innocent, even though there seems to be no reason to believe it. Unlike the original novel, the core message is life-affirming and redemptive; the survivors are the two who succeeded in finding someone worthy of trust. It seems to me that the scene in Miss Claythorne's bedroom when Mr Lombard wins her confidence and persuades her to open her secrets to him is the critical scene on which the denoement pivots; it is the scene in which Judge Quincannon's defeat becomes possible.

I have read the novel and I have seen the film. I have not seen the stage play. Do Miss Claythorne and Mr Lombard fall in love in the stage play? The detail of Mr Lombard survivng an attempt by Miss Claythorne to shoot him seems to indicate not; if so, their survival becomes merely a freak accident rather than the outcome of their decision to combine their fates. I think the 1945 film is more thematically satisfying; but ithat's a subjectivevalue-judgement. My point for the article is that the end result is only the same in the play d in the film if in fact the relationship between cause and effect is also the same, and they become romantically attached to one another in both film and play. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fleeming (talk • contribs) 21:56, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eight people??[edit]

The film is about 10 strangers who meet, why does the text say "Eight people, all total strangers to each other"? I'm editing this, but feel free to revert if there was a real reason for this; its been a while since I saw the movie. HereToFixLinks (talk) 03:58, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
