From the article cited:

The Swedish-Portuguese street artist Andre Saraiva, known professionally as "Mr. Andre," has paid a fine to the U.S. District Court for vandalizing a boulder in Joshua Tree National Park. On February 27th, 2015, park officials were notified by members of the public that Saraiva had posted Instagram photos of his work on one and possibly a second rock formation thought to be in the park. After investigation, only one location proved to be within park borders. He was subsequently fined an undisclosed amount which was paid on April 1st after he had returned to his home in France. Saraiva was cooperative with park rangers.

Why does the statement keep being removed from the article's lede? Is the problem with the word "convicted," in that he didn't have a trial? I'll change this to "paid a fine." Chisme (talk) 17:52, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism conviction belongs in this article[edit]

Several attempts have been made to white-wash all references to Andre's vandalism conviction in California. The passages in question are as follows:

In the lede: In 2015, André was fined by a U.S. District Court for vandalizing a boulder in Joshua Tree National Park in California.
Under the heading "Conviction for vandalism": On April 1, 2015, André was convicted and fined for vandalizing ancient rock formations in Joshua Tree National Park in California.[2] André had posted photos of his vandalizations on Instagram. The web site Modern Hiker and its readers aided the National Park Service in tracking down and identifying André's defacing of rocks in the park.[6] Before the conviction, André attempted to silence the reporting with legal threats.

The artist Andre is known primarily in the United States for his heinous act of vandalism to one of America's most beautiful national parks, not for his artwork, his prowess as a hotlier, or his talent for operating restaurants. Therefore, all attempts to white-wash Andre's crime out of this article will be thwarted. If you want to elaborate on Andre's adventures in the restaurant trade or crow about his hotel management skills, that's okay, but don't take out the vandalism stuff. Interesting. Do you think we need to mention as well his fines for cars badly parked ? Polaert (talk) 20:56, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Vandalizing a national park is a serious crime in the United States -- it's not the equivalent of parking a car on the sidewalk. If Andre wants to scrawl his "cheery, top-hatted stick figure" on the Manneken Pis or his own pis manneken, I don't care. If he wants to spit phlegm on Flemish landmarks, that's okay by me. But you don't deface a national park in the United States of America. And you don't hurl legal threats at the guardians who catch you doing it. Chisme (talk) 21:37, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Woah. Okay… First of all, when you call me a « bitch », do you realize? Respect the most fundamental principle of Wikipedia and consider me with respect as your fellow Wikipedian. Second of all, kindly refrain from imposing your personal experiences, interpretations, or opinions that everyone can clearly feel it when you write this " If Andre wants to scrawl his "cheery, top-hatted stick figure" on the Manneken Pis or his own pis manneken, I don't care. If he wants to spit phlegm on Flemish landmarks, that's okay by me. But you don't deface a national park in the United States of America. " And finally, I am very patient, open and welcoming of your point of view in spite of your engaging in a edit war. If Wikipedia is not a soapbox, an advertising platform, a place for vanity press, it’s neither an experiment in anarchy or democracy or an indiscriminate collection of information. So I am gonna render the article neutral as it should be with an impartial tone in the following way : André is renowned for his art work as well as disparaged by some as a "vandal," specifically by activists defending the Joshua Tree National Park in California, where André performed graffiti on a rock in the parking lot. Otherwise, André has been globally recognized for his work with graffiti. In 1989, André Saraiva won a competition organized by the French magazine L'Express. His graffiti spanned 3.20 x 2.15 meters of spray paint and stencils, which was selected among 25 other projects. He was featured on the cover of No.2001 issue of L’Express. In 1997, he sold his paintings in a shop in Paris, from which he was spotted by Japanese patrons that brought him to the art scene of Tokyo. André’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums all over the world. In 2002, he opened the concept store "BlackBlock" in Paris at Palais de Tokyo; a creation around which he organized concerts, parades and other performances, and whose profits were reinvested in new projects art. In 2010, André appeared in Banksy's film "Exit Through the Gift Shop". In 2011, he participated in MoCA Los Angeles' Art in the Streets exhibition. The same year, his work was also displayed at the Grand Palais, Paris and the 54th Venice Biennale. In 2014, a solo retrospective dedicated to his work was held at the Museu do Design da Moda in Lisbon. Plainly you're European, and you don't knoiw what mackin' or shoobedoo mean. If you did, you'd understand my meaning. You are also the one who wrote, "Interesting. Do you think we need to mention as well his fines for cars badly parked?", suggesting that vandalizing one of America's greatest national parks is tantamount to a parking violatin. You have no understanding of the gravity of Andre's crime, do you? Let's not white-wash what the graffiti manakin did. Chisme (talk) 21:48, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
