Already said by mthe most reliable source on Planel Earth "Fabrizio Romano". HERE WE GO. He will be a mancheter united player. Plus some other sources like Sky Sports and BBC also reported but Fabrizio Romano is the most reliable source of all time. It should be mention that he is on his way to moving to manchester united confirmed by the greatest source of all time. 51.36.171.122 (talk) 09:26, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Manchester United[edit]

This page needs to be updated now. It’s ludicrous and absurd to continue waiting to update him as a Manchester United player. It’s 100% certain and no one understands why you are waiting. Let’s go!! 72.94.27.18 (talk) 16:10, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why should Wikipedia say Onana moved when Manchester United has not announced the move yet? How can we be sure the transfer has been completed? Robby.is.on (talk) 17:05, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Player himself announced it on instagram. Fabrizio Romano > Wikipedia 2001:16A2:69B2:4800:745F:B797:9466:8D9A (talk) 17:28, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It wouldn't be the first time a player announces his move prematurely only for it to fall through. I'm not convinced. Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a newspaper and editors are not journalists.
Onana's post does suggest it won't be long till Manchester United makes an announcement which WP:reliable sources will then report on. Robby.is.on (talk) 17:46, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Announced, get it sorted![edit]

Now officially announced by club and needs to be updated! 94.174.195.84 (talk) 17:56, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Number should be changed to ‘24’ instead of ‘1’ 86.20.26.240 (talk) 18:33, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The change was made two minutes before you posted here. ;-) Thanks, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:57, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly game[edit]

Playing in a friendly match - whether it's his first or his 100th - is a a big deal because...? GiantSnowman 18:50, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No one is claiming we should mention friendlies as a matter of course. It was his first game for the club, which is important. No other game is as important for a player after a transfer. – PeeJay 18:51, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So why is it important? I fully agree his competitive debut (when it comes) is worth a mention, but why a friendly? GiantSnowman 18:52, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Because it's his first ever game for the club. I wouldn't make the same argument for any other friendly, but for Manchester United's new starting goalkeeper in his first appearance after a £45 million move, and based on the coverage of his performance, it's encyclopaedically relevant. – PeeJay 10:27, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Where's the coverage? GiantSnowman 07:49, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Is it really acceptable that too much details written for two friendly matches at his new club even including the match venues, compared to a full season at Inter! I read hundreds of articles about footballers none of them has this sort of content. This one user @PeeJay: insists by himself to include such trivia, and his arguments are simply worthless! I just want someone to explain other than him why this content is so valuable to keep. 2A02:908:4E3:9520:2C6E:E875:F14F:6E70 (talk) 14:42, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So you think that we should limit the amount we write in the future because people couldn't be bothered to write about him in the past? What nonsense is this? I'm not saying we should include information about every friendly he plays - far from it - but this was his first game for Manchester United and it was against Real Madrid. Your attempts to mischaracterise my position are pretty feeble, my anonymous friend. – PeeJay 15:01, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PeeJay: The content written for these two matches is ridicules, no one was arguing to expand other sections other than you, it is only for the comparison! A friendly match against Real Madrid or against Besiktas, with all respect, has no difference. Yes, of course your argument lacks coherence as hundreds of players do not have such mention about debut in friendlies including venues in USA, in addition to rants with teammates! If you write someone scored a brace and provided two assists in mid-season that would mean "routine", and content would be removed, so why should this trivia stand?! And I just noticed that you are a Man Utd fan, so come on! be objective! 2A02:908:4E3:9520:2C6E:E875:F14F:6E70 (talk) 15:27, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What are you talking about? I removed the content about the Dortmund game (which I note was added by @GiantSnowman in the first place). The only game I’m arguing to keep any mention of is his debut against Real Madrid. If your only argument is that it makes the Man Utd section longer than the Inter Milan section, then I suggest you write more about his Inter career. I’ll do my best to do so myself, but if you get there first, you’re welcome to have a go. – PeeJay 20:50, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with GiantSnowman. A friendly doesn't reach the WP:NATH standard, and they aren't particularly notable (we don't write about actors' high school theatre programs). Unless it was an extraordinary match, there isn't really a reason for inclusion. - AquilaFasciata (talk | contribs) 17:19, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So that's 3 editors wanting to remove the friendly game, and 1 wanting to keep it? GiantSnowman 18:11, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You added the info about Onana shouting at Maguire in a different friendly! – PeeJay 20:44, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On the basis that if your source was good enough, so was mine - there should be either both or neither, and my preference (and that of two other editors) is the latter. GiantSnowman 09:23, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was never my argument though. The Real Madrid game was his debut, the Dortmund game wasn’t. Just because we have a source for something doesn’t mean it’s editorially worth including. – PeeJay 15:38, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We would write about an actor’s high school career if it was covered in reliable sources. That’s a spurious example anyway. This isn’t an amateur game Onana was playing, it was one he was paid thousands of pounds to play in. If you’re going to compare apples with oranges, your opinion is going to get treated with contempt by me. – PeeJay 20:47, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, WP:NATH doesn’t apply to footballers, nor is it a threshold for what should be included in an article. Notability may not be conferred to a subject by a friendly, but their contributions in friendlies may still be worth including in the article. – PeeJay 15:41, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
