Untitled[edit]

I would question the edit staing that Isabella Bird was the first European woman to visit "Tibet." Isabella visited Ladakh, which was largely Tibetan in population, but was under the control of the British Indian Raj. Ladakh was fairly well known to the British at the time of Isabella's visit. Two Moravian missionaries and their wives had lived there for years and British officials regularly visited.

Annie Taylor was the first Western woman known to have visited the country of Tibet, e.g. the area controlled by a Tibetan government and to which access by Westerners was forbidden.

If there are no persuasive arguments to the contrary, I would plan to undo the edit and give Annie Taylor her due as the first Western woman to visit Tibet. Smallchief (talk) 21:38, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
