Most common term?

Is "portmanteau film" really the most common? See e.g. Google search results:

Results 906 for -wikipedia +"portmanteau film"
Results 60,300 for -wikipedia +"anthology film" -"anthology film archives"
Books 210 pages on +"anthology film" -"anthology film archives".
Books 32 pages on +"portmanteau film".

From this, it seems "Anthology film" is the more common name, so I think the article should be moved, with a redirect. Шизомби 01:52, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Other Examples

Would Pulp Fiction come under classification as an Anthology film? Other examples may be useful as well, such as Sin City among others. Helmetlad 15:48, 4 June 2006

The Wiki article on Naked City has this line: .. the series Route 66, created by Stirling Silliphant. Route 66 was broadcast by CBS from 1960 to 1964, and, like Naked City, followed the "semi-anthology" format of building the stories around the guest actors, rather than the regular cast.[1] (The citation is to Variety, where the term "semi-anthology was coined. So that's a justification for keeping "anthology", and a citation to beef up this article.

Another citation that might be useful is: Series drama and the "semi-anthology" : sixties television in transition (a thesis on ResearchGate) https://www.researchgate.net/publication/34071088_Series_drama_and_the_semi-anthology_sixties_television_in_transition [myersk1 March 9, 2018)Myersk1 (talk) 20:03, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

Merging with Package Film

I'd like to bring to your attention the articles package film and list of package films. The second link only lists animated films, so perhaps it should be renamed to something like "List of animated package films". In any case, maybe the first article and this one should be merged, and it should be decided what is the more commonly-used name. Esn 18:46, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Merge with Composite Film

Someone proposed it, so let's discuss it. If there's no discussion, I'll just delete the tag eventually. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 13:44, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

These two topics deserve their own pages. Anthology films are made up of completely self contained short films that deal with one specific topic or theme. Composite films have an underlying storyline that tie them together. Also, much discussion was made on the Talk:Composite film page and there was no consensus on merging. Since you never came back, I'll delete the tag now.Joshuaism (talk) 03:14, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Intolerance (D. W. Griffith)

I'm having trouble grasping the distinction between an anthology film and a composite film. Specifically, I wonder if Griffith's Intolerance counts as the former or the latter or both or neither. It is certainly an earlier example than any of the other films mentioned in either article and the inclusion of this significant film in the appropriate article seems justified. For those not familiar with the work, it is composed of four distinct intercut stories very loosely connected by the theme of intolerance, each set in a different century.

Edit war?

MarnetteD seems intent on violating MOS:BOLDAVOID for some reason. Not sure why. Perhaps would like to offer an explanation here?

MarnetteD, MOS:BOLDAVOID supports the IP editor's edit. Perhaps we can fit the linked word anthology later in the opening sentence? Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 16:51, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
