Meaning?[edit]

What on earth is this supposed to mean: In January 1965 Howard joined the Sunday Times as its Whitehall correspondent, which turned out to be an unfortunate career move, as it was a post in advance of accepted practices at the time.? Cause of death?[edit]

Someone has cited the cause of death as being complications from surgery on a ruptured aneurysm but there appears to be no substance to this in the reference cited, which refers merely to the "short illness" formula which is frequently used by UK media. 'Edited the Crossman Diaries'[edit]

There has been confusion over the facts here. Howard is often cited as 'editor' of "The Crossman Diaries", a selection of entries from the previously published "The Diaries of a Cabinet Minister", a book by Richard Crossman (1907-1974). However, neither of these texts has a Wikipedia article, which means the previous version of the Anthony Howard page had led people to believe, falsely, that Howard had been the editor of the original text (which was edited by Janet Morgan). The term 'editor' is also suspect, as the work done by Howard was far less than that done by Morgan, and does not deserve to be described by the same word. It appears that two of the three external links are now dead (either that, or there's something wrong with my computer). The link for "Cilde Harold" goes to a "metasearch engine" and the one for Howard's column archives goes to The Times (or rather to its paywall). Done. Unfortunately journalisted only has a small fraction of Howard's articles, right at the end of his career, but the NS site has a list going back to 1999 which I am about to link to. Philip Cross (talk) 18:15, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
