In Western Sicily the word is spelt arancine? Isn't that simply the Italian spelling of the Sicilian word? None of the Sicilian dialects would commonly end a word with an unstressed "e". --ρ¡ρρµ δ→θ∑ - (waarom? jus'b'coz!) 04:10, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It does, it is actually used, just as plural of "arancina" (another way of saying that); and, since the Sicilian language has never been somehow formalized, there is no official spelling for the word, thus I guess both ways should be explained (even if "arancino" is much more used in the Island). In the province of Palermo the correct spelling is arancina/arancine. Actually people, while not complaining, smiles at you if you use arancini. (it's a good way to find if you are from Palermo or not) --McGwain
the Italian academy for the language (Accademia della Crusca) leans for the arancina/arancine version (feminine): https://accademiadellacrusca.it/it/consulenza/si-dice-arancino-o--arancina/1043. But there is no consensus, and there are local variations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:F2C0:E022:89:409C:9301:49E2:D90B (talk) 15:32, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Coxinha[edit]

This looks just like a Brazilian coxinha!... But the coxinha is often with chicken meat. Can the arancini have possibly influenced it?... -- NIC1138 (talk) 03:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Arancine/i are made with RICE seasoned with saffron. --93.40.82.91 (talk) 15:55, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Snack description is not accurate[edit]

Is snack the appropiate description? While they can be eaten as a snack, they are also eaten as a meal (for lunch typically) so I think the article should refrain from stating how or when it is eaten in the first sentence. I also think the first sentence should ideally state that arancine are filled as that is a primary feature of them. Below are some potential ideas on what the first sentence of the lede could be changed to.

  • Arancini (also arancine) are an Italian stuffed and deep-fried rice ball which are a staple of Sicilian cuisine."
  • Arancine (also arancine) are a Sicilian food consisiting of stuffed rice balls that are coated in breadcrumbs and then deepfried.
  • Arancine are a Sicilian deep-fried food consiting of stuffed rice balls.

Personally I prefer the first suggestion. These suggestions are far from perfect and I am very much open to suggestions for improvement. Philipp.governale (talk) 00:37, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I too like the first option, and implemented it with some minor tweaks. Let me know if this is good. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 00:46, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is there mention of a plural/singular?[edit]

It is very bothersome that English page is "Arancini", as usually the page should be titled after the "unit", so "arancino" (redirected from other spelling). I admit it is hard to eat only one, but logically it should follow the same rule of other food - "pizza" not "pizze" or "pizzas", "taco" not "tacos", "baguette" not "baguettes", etc... 2607:F2C0:E022:89:409C:9301:49E2:D90B (talk) 15:40, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

PAT[edit]

This food has been included in the list of PAT products; I think it's important to add this information (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arancino). JacktheBrown (talk) 20:55, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
