Maintenance tags[edit]

Thank you very much for your helpful guidance earlier and for taking the time and trouble to assist me in compile the references correctly! After having now provided additional citations and (I believe) now meeting Wikipedia's inclusion criterion of being "worthy of notice" that is significant, interesting or unusual enough to desire attention or to be recorded", I have now removed the notice at the top of my article. I will, of course, be happy to provide another one or two citations within the next few days, if you feel it would improve my article further.

I lok forward to your reply and any other helpful or useful suggestions you may have. Many thanks again for all your help!

Yours, Zhu Haifeng (talk) 12:05, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you've done a great job so far with adding sources. That said, I've gone ahead and replaced the maintenance tags. The fact that the subject is the "youngest deputy editor" for the Independent indicates possible significance and/or importance, but does not support notability. Essentially, we need to establish notability through significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, business, or affiliates. The first source supports the claim that the subject is the "youngest deputy editor" and is considered reliable and independent. The second source is an interview that does not meet the threshold for independence. The third source is an article about the subject's father that merely mentions the subject in passing, "He is a great supporter of the present BBC structure and evidently proud of the fact that his only son Archie, 22, is a fledgling print journalist." And the fourth source merely supports that the subject graduated from Columbia University. Unfortunately, these sources do not yet met the threshold for notability. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. Cindy(talk to me) 13:07, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thank you again for your useful guidance and for the compliments you have given me in finding more sources. I understand your reason for reluctantly putting the notice back, and I will add more citations from neutral sources as soon as I can, to help demonstrate notability as I know those sources exist. In the meantime, I have a very important question to ask: do sources need to be in electronic or printed form, to be included as citations in Wikipedia references? The reason I'm asking is that the above subject has appeared many times on BBC News Channel and Sky News as a guest newspaper reviewer, on several of which occasions his job title of Deputy Editor of The Independent newspaper and relative youth have been commented upon by either the news presenter or second guest. I don't have video recordings of these interviews, but I'm sure that a phone call to either organisation would verify that he is indeed a regular guest on both channels. Regular viewers of BBC News Channel's late evening 'Newspaper Review' and of 'Sky Newspaper Review' will almost certainly have seen him appearing for around 15 minutes (on BBC News) and 25 mins (Sky News) in the late evening. A friend of mine says he has found video clips of him appearing on those programmes on YouTube, but I don't know if that's an acceptable source for Wikipedia. And please can you tell me how I can otherwise prove the above information to be true on my Wikipedia page? Many thanks again. Zhu Haifeng (talk) 13:48, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • You'll want to check WP:YT for information about YouTube videos. The concern we have with YT videos pertains to copyright protection. We don't even allow links to content that violates the creator's copyright. It won't help to call someone for verification either. Generally, the best sources are either online or hardcopy articles, magazines, books, etc. The citations just need to be verifiable. Outside of this, it's important to state where you got your information from. Sometimes, an editor will write an article based on personal knowledge, then feverishly attempt to find sources to support their article. This is a bit putting the cart before the horse. Keep looking. Once we are able to find significant coverage about the subject, we should be able to establish notability in accordance with the general notability guidelines. Don't let this frustrate you. I'm here to help. The notability tag also flags other editors to possibly lend a hand as well. Cindy(talk to me) 17:24, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
