Lucas’s and the browns back in the 1900’s when mining took place in this small mining community is how this town came about. The local family of Lucas’s around today are descendants from them. A John Lucas from 10 generations ago came to Missouri to mine for coal. A lot of the Lucas family is buried at the Salem baptism church which is about half mile south of excello, MO 2606:5780:10E:F550:94AE:6258:7C7C:55D2 (talk) 01:00, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
