language use[edit]

it seems editors here are using 'ancestry', 'heritage' and 'descent' in the introduction more or less interchangeably.

I initially used 'heritage' in the article description for consistency with the language used in the first part of the introduction, however this description was (rightfully) shortened, and 'heritage' switched to 'descent'. the idea communicated remains similar enough, but the words do not have the exact same meanings so I'm wondering what would be the best way forward here. I'm wondering about this also in terms of not using the language used in source material - which for the introduction, the census stats only use ethnic group - 'ethnicity' as it's described there being a broad definition, broader than 'heritage', 'ancestry', and 'descent', and all having slightly to somewhat different definitions.

In my opinion, to change language in the article to reflect source material language should be considered, even if just from the fact that the definitions they're using that census respondents are choosing within are broader than the definitions that come with the language used in this article, so the article ends up being not fully representative/communicative(?) of the source material. however, the census definition of ethnicity as well as some of the categories has overlap with race. which complicates things further. not to mention the ongoing issues with the census categories altogether (like with lacking Black Welsh and Asian Welsh, and classifying Roma as white, for example. but I digress), which makes me hesitant to follow along with the census category language used without question too. so I think that all should be considered also.
