Challenge to speedy decision to delete[edit]

Contested - the player has according to the entry played professional football in Sweden before Liverpool signed him and had made 4 first-team appearances at the age (I would assume) of 15 for the Swedish club. As this has been contested in March 2007, I would assume that placing candidate for speedy delete is questionable Steve-Ho 19:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and have removed tags. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 19:50, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Place of Birth[edit]

Yes he was born in what is now Kosovo, but it was Yugoslavia at the time. It appears to be common place on wiki to refer to the place of birth as what it was called at birth and not what it is know now. For example singer Marc Almond is listed as born in Southport, Lancashire because that was the case in 1956, but it is now in Merseyside. We do not want an edit war going on here, it should be accepted he was born in Yugoslavia despite what the Liverpool FC site says. --Uksam88 (talk) 19:20, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But what is the wiki policy on the issue? If there is no actual policy on the issue, if any. If there isn't one then surely the claim with sourcing is the one that shoult take priority!? And know, I don't want an edit war either. Fry2000 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fry2000 (talkcontribs) 23:21, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is no actual policy on the issue however i have found a discussion here and here plus another example of country of birth being called a different name now than it was. Andriy Shevchenko is listed as being born in the Soviet Union, despite being what is now the Ukraine. I think we should accept, that despite no consensus being reached and thus no policy, it is common place to use the country of birth as it was.
I think the intro should argueably read:
Astrit Ajdarevic (born April 17, 1990 in Yugoslavia) is a Swedish professional football player currently playing as a midfielder for Liverpool FC youth team.
He appears to be a naturalised swede and after googling him it appears he has a swedish passport, i don't think we actually need to mention Kosovo anywhere. --Uksam88 (talk) 15:04, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How about both of them? It seems to me that they are both equaly as valid. I don't see any reason not to include Kosovo. That is worthwhile information that should be included, surely. What part of Yugoslavia he come from, rather than just which country he is from. At present the Shevckenco's article includes a referance to his hometown, not just 'Soviet Union' Fry2000

I would agree but it doesn't seem to be common place to refer to both of them. I would prefer to have more localised date for Ajdarevic, but at the moment we only have "Kosovo." If you can find out where he was born in Kosovo itself, i would have no qualms with it going in the article. --Uksam88 (talk) 19:26, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
