Atrioventricular canal is nowhere described[edit]

The first section (introduction) does not describe what the atrioventricular canal is -- it just states that its development is essential, and goes on to describe the consequences of failure to develop. (And the remainder of the article is about pathology only.)

Can someone with knowledge of this please write at least an introductory sentence?
