Schools[edit]

Are they really public schools or should that say state schools?--188.220.225.23 (talk) 21:33, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

State schools are referred to as "public schools" in Scotland. "Public school" in the sense of private school is English usage.--MacRùsgail (talk) 13:20, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Affleck[edit]

It's my understanding that Affleck is a posh aff(l)ectation, not a traditional usage.--MacRùsgail (talk) 13:20, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

'Affleck' (pronounced ah-fleck), is the Scots language name for the town. It is still in common use locally. Even if it wasn't still in use locally it would still be relevant as a historical local language name. VanguardScot 18:57, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Strength: Geographical information, photograph

Next Steps: Rephrase second paragraph so not in personal terms i.e negayive POV. More information on history

What on earth is a sentence like "Police and public community interaction on gangs, known and unknown trouble-makers, and other deviants is bringing normality, a decent standard of life and upright living back into the village" doing in a public Wikipedia?! Can someone who knows Auchinlek make this a bit less silly? (October 2010) MichaelHalls (talk) 13:42, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
