Article title will require disambiguation from Issue 1 on November 2023 Ohio ballot[edit]

It is expected that there will be at least one issue on the Ohio statewide ballot in the general election in November 2023 (see 2023 Ohio abortion initiative); according to convention, that issue will also be referred to in Ohio as "Issue 1". Consequently, the title of this article will require disambiguation. I propose "2023 Ohio Special Election Issue 1" to reflect the fact that this article is referring to "Issue 1" as it was presented to voters during the special election in August 2023. Requested move 9 August 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Not moved at this time. Should November 2023 Ohio Issue 1 be created it will likely be uncontroversial to move this article to August 2023 Ohio Issue 1. (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 12:58, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 Ohio Issue 12023 Ohio Special Election Issue 1 – To disambiguate the August 2023 Ohio statewide special election ballot issue described in this article from the "Issue 1" expected to appear on the November 2023 statewide Ohio ballot. General Ization Talk 05:25, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CRYSTAL refers to information which is "unverifiable speculation, rumors, or presumptions". Another issue to amend the Ohio Constitution was certified by the Ohio Secretary of State in July 2023 to appear on the Ohio state-wide ballot in November 2023, taking the existence of another "Ohio Issue 1" in 2023 out of the realm of any of those. Another initiative (The Marijuana Legalization Initiative) has been submitted and is awaiting certification. The only question now is which of these issues will end up as "Issue 1" on the November ballot. The need for disambiguation already exists. General Ization Talk 15:01, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unless this other issue one already has an article already needing disambiguation, there is no need to move this one now. Considering we have no idea what issue one will be, there isn't a need a disambiguate it here as of this point. We only disambiguate when we have multiple articles. • Strong oppose as the proper disambiguation would be to add the month to the article title per WP:NCELECT (i.e. August 2023 Ohio Issue 1). But again, let's wait until we see what happens with the next referendum before we rename this one. Elli (talk | contribs) 12:16, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Am I correct to interpret that your "Strong oppose" is to the particular name proposed? You also indicate wanting to "wait until we see", but it seems clear to me (as User:General Ization has indicated above) that some sort of re-name is highly likely to be needed (I suppose it's possible that the future issues would be numbered other than 1, but an example from 2018 indicates precedent for the numbers being re-used), so... let's just figure out what the name should be, yeah?
And as for WP:NCELECT, it seems that neither "[year] [jurisdiction] [measure identifier]" nor "[date] [country name or adjectival form] [type] election/referendum" is an exact match to the situation at hand -- and certainly, neither mentions a month. So, perhaps that guideline also needs updating?? At any rate, 2023 Ohio Special Election Issue 1 does seem to me to match [year] [jurisdiction] [measure identifier], in as much as the "measure identifier" is expanded to specify which "Issue 1" is being referenced. I do like the idea of having the month in there, too, perhaps in parenthesis (as suggested by User:SecretName101), though I see nothing of the sort in WP:NCELECT, so... I'm left unsure what the most appropriate rename would be. And while I suppose we don't formally know for sure (or at least I don't) that there will be another Issue 1, it does seem like there's precedent for expecting that. But, I'm new to the state, so... grain of salt. Just trying to help hash this out. Lindes (talk) 18:22, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose for consistency with other similar pages' titles and conciseness. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 21:01, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose proposed name, Support "August 2023 Ohio Issue 1" if any of the ballot issues in November are labeled "Issue 1". Unknown-Tree (talk) 23:43, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - see the disambiguation page at Ohio Issue 1. This format of (Month) Year Ohio Issue 1 is standard, and there's no point being a crystal ball about any possible ballots come November.
I would, however, support a more descriptive name for those unfamiliar with how US ballot measures work. "Issue 1" makes zero sense to those outside the US without prior knowledge; something akin to " 2023 Ohio voter constitutional referendum", " 2004 Ohio marriage referendum", etc would be much more understandable (if more wordy). Endorsements default > Hidden?[edit]

The endorsements section is long enough that it makes navigation tricky, and really how important is it now that the election is over? Could we set those to default = hidden? Valereee (talk) 12:01, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Could I suggest maybe dual columns for desktop users if we can pull it off? For mobile users that's impractical, but for desktop/widescreen readers I think that would work pretty well. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 23:02, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
