3rd Party link[edit]

I've swapped the 'Overview of ANCAP tests' link from a third-party site to the official ANCAP 'Safety Testing Explained' page

How useful are ANCAP star ratings?[edit]

Many people will reach this page when attempting to evaluate car safety. It would be nice to have information here about how useful ANCAP ratings are.

A glance at recently released ratings shows that the vast majority of new cars receive a 5-star rating.

It would be great if almost every new car is 100% as safe as possible, but I think it is more likely that the star rating is no longer a useful metric to evaluate the relative safety of modern cars.

If this page contained information indicating that the ANCAP star rating isn't very useful (if this is the case), this may provide motivation to look into other safety metrics, and indirectly save lives :)
