According to houseofnames.com the surname Belanger comes from the name of a town in Normandy, called Angers. It is very unlikely that Belanger means "warrior" in old French. Does anyone have proofs to support this?

Here is what I have found on Ancestry.com (Belanger seems to be a variant of Beringer):

Beringer 1. German and Dutch: from the Germanic personal name Beringer, composed of the elements berin + ger ‘(warrior) fighting with a spear’. 2. German: variant spelling of Behringer 1. 3. French (Béringer) and English (of Norman origin): from the Old French personal name Berenger, derived from the same Germanic personal name as 1. I am a direct descendant of the Bélanger Family knights that came to Canada From the family castle in France. The " Chevaliers De Belle Angers " I.E. (knights of beautiful angels), from the "Chateau D'Anger" next to the town of "Anger" in Normandie of France. Our Ancestors are recorded to have been "Gaulois" since 300 years before Christ... meaning Gaelic... and YES, Gaelic France is the same as in England... and it is the origin language of French... (RECORDED FACT OF HISTORY).

The Familly from Germany that is related to the Belanger Family and not Bélanger

family, was actually the ancient family of Ingers. This Family also had many dealings, commerce and mixing of families between the Bélanger and Belanger family. This produces Belle Ingers... Belingers, Berengers, and more... Ingers also had a great meaning to the name and you may want to look it up. (Proven to be found in the original family archives.)

The Bélanger Family also went to Nottingham England in the service of the King to help in the holly Crusades. The name then was pronounced Belanger, and made quite the mix in the family tree. (Found in the original family archives.)
