Acronym?[edit]

The article states that the name "BASF" is an acronym, but I believe it to be an abbreviation, as an acronym is generally pronounced as one word. How does one pronounce "BASF", if so? Pookiyama (talk) 19:47, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It actually would be an initialism from the looks of it unless Germans actually do use it as an acronym instead. It's possible, but it doesn't seem likely barring any actual sourcing on the subject. Kingofaces43 (talk) 22:05, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. BASF is the initials of Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik which is included in the "Founded as" section. It is pronounced by spelling out the letters. BASF is sometimes referred to as Badische. Sandcherry (talk) 21:28, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've mostly encountered
Bass-F
and
B-A-S-F
for how you same the name 2604:3D08:9B77:AB00:F567:405F:1BD:14A (talk) 22:45, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

VHS cassette tapes[edit]

In the 80s and 90s I recall seeing the BASF name on video cassettes sold in the US. But I didn't se anything about this mentioned in the article, which I find a bit odd as it was the first (and last) time I remember seeing the name. Shouldn't there be something in the business segments section about this? 98.11.100.169 (talk) 18:48, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest putting up a sample ad for BASF tape
Liszt or Twist
is worth looking up
as well as the older logos 1920s-30s, 1950s-1960s
most everyone knows the 1968 logo 2604:3D08:9B77:AB00:F567:405F:1BD:14A (talk) 22:44, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've also seen audio cassettes, and I'm pretty sure they made computer floppy disks as well. 97.107.46.245 (talk) 12:52, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reel to Reel tape and cassette tape was probably the most recognized branding.
Scotch and Ampex in the USA, Sony in Japan, BASF in Germany
were some of the most famous recording tape brands
There should be mention of one of their older slogans which i think might have been in the 80s or 90s
"You might not recognize our name, but what we make is used in products you use/found in your home" 2604:3D08:9B77:AB00:F567:405F:1BD:14A (talk) 22:39, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Passive phrasing in History section[edit]

The first sentences in several parts of the History section are phrased passively, and so it's completely unclear how what is first written about soda, sulfuric acid, and ammonia relate to BASF.
