Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not moved for now, per discussion and ArbCom motion. The issue can be revisited once consensus is reached on the guideline. Jafeluv (talk) 09:25, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

La Salle–UST rivalryLa Salle – UST rivalry – I previously moved these pages out of my idiocy of WP:DASH. An en dash should be preceded and followed by spaces if either words that it joins are separated by spaces. Sorry for bringing unnecessary work to the moving admin. • Defer -- whatever comes out of this should be followed, and any moves should be deferred until that discussion is over. –HTD (ITN: Where no updates but is stickied happens.) 13:33, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We should follow current guidelines. The discussion shows that the current position is unlikely to change. Moray An Par (talk) 14:00, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's what both sides of the "Dash Wars" said (see Talk:Mexican-American War/Archive 3). It won't hurt if we wait. There's no WP:DEADLINE anyway.
And if we'd follow the Mexican~American War arguments, the rivalry articles shouldn't have spaces before and after the endashes. Dunno for the other articles, as the dashes there are used differently. –HTD (ITN: Where no updates but is stickied happens.) 14:08, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: People may disagree about dashes versus hyphens but I don't think the spacing is under much contention. –CWenger (^@) 21:29, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Defer Actually, the spacing is contentious, and the entire request should be postponed; some of us do hold the eccentric position that we should try to write in the fashion of actual printed English: Ateneo-La Salle. When this is reopened, this should be divided into three move requests: one for Bagumbayan, which is an effort to add a slogan to the common name of a political party (the independent sources call it Bagumbayan, and the best disambiguator from the city is probably (party)); another the colleges with a town name (if consistency is essential, be consistent with University of California, Davis); and a third for the rivalry between two colleges. These are different semantic functions, and a rational set of titles would use different pointing for each. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 06:15, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
