Batavia is linked to the September 11, 2001 terrorists attacks. In 2000, Mohamed Atta purchased flight deck videos for Boeing 747-200 and Boeing 757-200 models from Sporty's Pilot Shop.
The limestone in the Batavia area contains fossilized crinoid fragments from the mid- to late-Paleozoic period.
Batavia is home to the Clermont College campus, a branch of the University of Cincinnati.
Batavia is the home of United States Army SSG Keith Matthew "Matt" Maupin who was captured by insurgents on April 9, 2004 while serving in the Iraq War. Video on Al Jazeera on June 28, 2004 may show his execution, but the Army did not confirm that remains were found until 2008.

While this is interesting, we can't use it unless you provide a source. Matt Maupin's wiki article is well sourced of this information. The state of Ohio has recognized Matt Maupin as a notable resident, and as such, the community from where he is from has erected a Welcome Pavilion in honor of him.

Township[edit]

Remarkably, I am unable to determine from either this article, or this article, or even this article, whether Batavia the municipality is or is not located in Batavia the township. Seems like a no-brainer, but I know from experience that it is not at all certain. Can someone from the region clarify this? HuskyHuskie (talk) 20:41, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is — this map is on the township article, and the township article says "Two incorporated villages are located in Batavia Township: part of Amelia in the southwest, and the county seat of Batavia in the center." Nyttend (talk) 19:53, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
