Francis Beaufort[edit]

A few news sources say that the feature is named after Irish hydrographer Francis Beaufort, which seems plausible, and one even goes as far to say that he discovered it. I can't find any strong evidence of either, though. Is there any genuine connection?

An 1856 publication attributes its discovery to a Captain Beechey, presumably (although I haven't yet seen a source that explicitly says so) Frederick William Beechey.--Lord Belbury (talk) 23:15, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
