Unrated

The actual name "Das Boot" is referenced: 1) When Jan & Todd first attend Beerfest and witness the Germans compete against the Irish for the championship (~14:24) , 2) When USA faces Germany in the tie-breaker, after speed-quarters (~1:34:33), 3) After declaring a 5vs5 Boot challenge for the brewery, the finale event can be heard annoucned as "Das Boot!" (~1:46:31), and 4) when the finale gets under way the crowd can be heard chanting "Das boot" (~1:47:42). (there are also subsequent chants of "das boot" from the crowds after 1, 2, and 3)

"The Boot" (English translation of Das Boot) is also referenced at ~35:40, ~48:36, ~48:58, ~1:33:18, ~1:33:45, ~1:33:50, ~1:34:00, ~1:34:02, ~1:45:23, ~1:45:27, ~1:46:17, and ~1:46:21. 66.207.82.45 06:39, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually the English translation of "Das Boot" is "The Boat", it's a play on words dumkopf ;)

Slight Errors

I corrected 2 errors.

1) "However, in an obvious deus ex machina, Landfill's twin brother, Gil (also played by Heffernan), suddenly appears and expresses his desire to join their team; Gil is so similar to Landfill that he even takes his nickname."

This is poorly worded. I changed it to, "However, in an obvious deus ex machina, Landfill's twin brother, Gil (also played by Heffernan), suddenly appears and expresses his desire to join their team. Gil is similar to Phil, yet better in almost every way, and asks to be referred by the same nickname as his deceased brother; Landfill."

2)"Along with the beer consumption humor like a beer goggles scene, the film also makes fun of ethnic stereotypes, such as the Canadian team wearing hockey jerseys, the English team speaking in nearly indecipherable cockney..."

This is incorrect. The resulting confusion lies in a mixture of British slang and Cockney rhyming slang. ("You're all fur coat and no trousers" and "we're gonna put the skitters in your Alan Whickers, you plonker!") Some of these slang words are Cockney rhyming slang (Alan Whicker#Trivia), but others are merely British slang. As which can be seen with plonker.

Ergo, I changed the 2 to, "Along with the beer consumption humor like a beer goggles scene, the film also makes fun of ethnic stereotypes, such as the Canadian team wearing hockey jerseys, the English team speaking in nearly indecipherable British slang and Cockney rhyming slang..." 66.207.82.45 07:25, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Troupe or troop

The spelling troupe was changed to troop. Both are valid in English generally so I've changed it back. However, since this is an American movie by Americans the should be in American English. Are both valid in American English. If not, then someone revert my reversion. Jimp 02:19, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Schniedelwichsen/wischen/waschen

There have been some edits concerning the term Schniedelwaschen, Schniedelwischen, or Schniedelwichsen. As a German native speaker, I'd like to remark that actually all terms are correct German. Although all are hardly ever used and have different meaning. Schniedel is a word from childhood language that is a synonym for penis like willy. The second part in all variants is a verb as infinitive, thus making the whole word a verb. Waschen means to wash, wischen means to wipe, and wichsen to wank. For instance Schniedelwichsen literally translates to willy wanking. The credits say that the character's name is Mr./Herr Schniedelwichsen. The actor also introduces himself as Schniedelwichsen (pronounced like shneedle-vixen). Other actors (the Americans) call him Mr. Schniedelwaschen or Mr. Schniedelwischen instead. Although there seems to be a comment on the DVD bonus track stating that the actual name is Schniedelwaschen and mispelled elsewhere, I suppose that it is actually Schniedelwichsen but not everyone liked to translate it correctly because it is more obscene.

Possible Trivia?

The warmp up jerseys the USA team wears seems to be an homage to the 1980 US hocky team that as huge underdogs, went on to win the gold.

Warning on page "Plot description too long" dated 03 June 2008

I did lots of work last November fleshing out this page's plot description:

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Victorcoutin at 2007-11-03T15:28:24 .

A contributor named Dorftrottel added

to this article and it proceeded to be gutted. This is the only contribution that Dorftrottel ever made to this page, and he did so without any comment or notations.

The plot section of the article wasn't actually very long, but it was full of carefully scrutinized details made by many of us. Dorftrottel quit Wikipedia soon after. I inspected his "talk" page, it looks kind of like he was at the root of several disputes due to similar types of intrusions on pages. I believe personally it is bad Wikipedia etiquette to swoop down on a page for the first time and decide that huge portions of the entire page aren't satisfactory without ever having even contributed to the page and without having done any work to build the page.

I even went in and tried to edit the plot section down to a few sentences - in good faith. It only took two hours for someone to come in and undo my edit. This shows that the plot section isn't really too long, because WE the contributors to the page feel that the detailed version of the plot is warranted.

I am writing this here to suggest that the plot section of the page be returned to its original detail. If no one else does, I will volunteer to come in and restore the details that have been taken out since the beginning of June. The user "Dorftrottel" was wrong in adding "The plot summary in this article or section is too long or detailed compared to the rest of the article" box and obviously he got to the point where he soon after gave up his Wikipedia ID because of other edits like this one. This is not me personally attacking Dorftrottel. Dorftrottel (perhaps unintentionally) contributed to an unjustified and frivolous edit to this page that I am hereby suggesting be reversed. --Victorcoutin (talk) 04:34, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
