Genre[edit]

Okay, let's stop messing around shall we? Giacobbe, you changed the genre to "electro-hop" and added a ref, precising, rv unsourced genre change, I've been watching the article for a while and different "music fans" have continually changed the genre from "alternative hip-hop" to "hardcore hip-hop" to plain old "hip-hop" (+ "electro"). So it's electro and hip-hop right? Good, now you've added a ref, which says "electro-rap", what "electro-hop" page are you talking about? If you're talking about the Wikipedia page, it doesn't exist anymore because it got deleted as pure original research, there is no documented "electro-hop" genre (for now anyways). So let's just conform to the source that you added as a ref, shall we? CaptainScreebo Parley! 09:54, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The funny part was how I helped create this article, added in the genre SOURCED from the beginning. Since you weren't here you wouldn't know that someone changed electro-hop to just electro, there is no source for that, so I'll disregard that. Secondly; at the time I didn't know the page was deleted, but to my justification anytime a reviewer puts "technopop" in their review, it is changed to "electropop" on Wikipedia. I was just following protocol. Thirdly, I've created/and or significantly expanded many of her articles, so don't treat me like I'm an IP here when you're the one who jumps in and thinks you can command everyone...--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 19:33, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
sorry, thought IO was reverting the article, tried to self-revert u you were already there (cue vocoder "you wer already there, babeeee" etc.) CaptainScreebo Parley! 19:42, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And if yo wany get down, I iz an original breakbeat acidtechno pirate radio listanaaahh, so, great you created the article but electro-hop iz bullshit, where's the problem, my sources, my sauces, I'll take you all on like Jean Jaurès, yeah MCA came into my body today! Peace (while it's still possible) CaptainScreebo Parley! 19:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
LOL that's actually too funny! --(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 19:55, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, fu(c)ked up the wikicode. CaptainScreebo Parley! 19:58, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My reason for the recent change was that the outcome of this discussion was that it is not a genre, albeit for an article's deletion. Anyway, that led to edits like this removing "electro hop" from infoboxes entirely. But as it pertains to this song, what makes it electro-hop? Electro rarely has any vocals, and the 808 drums that are heard in the song are also heard in Southern hip hop and bounce music, but nothing by say Outkast is labelled electro hop. This one, and only, source says "electro-rap boastfests", which is supposed to be synonymous with "electro hop"? The critic is either confusing "electro" and hip hop, which both are known to sample funk and use 808s in its production, or it's just rhetoric and avoiding being redundant and calling it "hip hop", which would seem self-evident. Electro hop IS a prominent genre that is used by artists such as Pitbull (entertainer) and Hyper Crush. Your reasoning is that because you do not think it is a genre, and a critic says it is, that means you're ultimately right? Take Night of Your Life (David Guetta song), California Gurls, Firework (song), and Pound the Alarm as examples where the genre is not recognized by Wikipedia, but it is included by critics. Your blatant disregard of WP:NOR amazes me. It is simply electronic hip-hop, which takes characteristics from both electronic and hip hop music. It features an electronic rain drop effect similar to Super Bass; also an electronic song. Removing sourced material from an article is not allowed. The fact that a critic called it electro rap warrants it to be present in the info box. A simple solution would be to just add both, but removing sourced content from Wikipedia is against the rules.--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 22:58, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So the deletion and removal of "electro hop" from numerous infoboxes had nothing to do with whether it was a genre or not? Well if it means anything, I asked a member of Hip hop's wikiproject for advice, and he recommended piping "electro hop" to "hip hop", since the two links of "electronic" "hip hop" seems at odds with delineating genres w/commas as separate genres like shown at Template:Infobox_album#Genre. Dan56 (talk) 23:54, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So basically we would link hip hop but it would be shown as electro hop?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 03:09, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Dan56 (talk) 04:05, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What would be the point in that? If it is going to the hip hop article, unless there is a section on electro hop in that article, why not just label it hip hop? noq (talk) 12:24, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Because the source says electro hop. Similar to what happens with electro house, you link it to "house music" because it has no official page, but it is a sub-genre of it.--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 17:31, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
