Aligning Services section[edit]

I am trying to align the Services section below the infobox so that the External image box is included within the Services section and not pushed further down in the article, by using the clear template. While this works, the contents box on the left hand side is also pushed below the infobox which creates unnecessary white space on the page and does not look good. How can I achieve aligning the Services section below the Infobox without the Contents box also being pushed down? Fleet Lists (talk) 04:43, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like using the template {{clear left}} does what you want. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:03, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jmcgnh: I had tried that previously and have again included the "left" but it causes the External image box to be shown well below the Services section which is what is not desirable.Fleet Lists (talk) 05:17, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jmcgnh: I think I can resolve the problem by splitting the article lead by including most of it in a History section which slots in below the contents box and the just use the clear template.Fleet Lists (talk) 05:27, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fleet Lists, Sure, I may have misunderstood what your goal was with that External image box. You have to remember that the formatting of articles is supposed to be pretty fluid, given all the different browsers and window sizes that may be in use.
If you wanted to more directly connect the infobox and the external image, you might consider a <div> directive around the two. I'm not sure what else that would do, but it's something to try if you have layout goals that aren't being met by the standard layout. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 07:43, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jmcgnh: Thanks for that but I have since found out that placing __TOC__ before the clear template would have solved the problem. This forces the table of contents to go where you want it instead of just before the first heading which is standard.Fleet Lists (talk) 12:17, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
