Census figures

I'm not sure where 198.96.80.16 found his alternative census figures, but [1] and [2] show 45 986 and 87 395, not 46 158 and 88 316. mendel 03:44, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)

secondary school

I noticed that Bayside Secondary is included as being in Belleville. When the school was built it was between Trenton and Belleville and is now located in the City of Quinte West (which includes the area that was the City of Trenton). I think the school would better be listed under Quinte West. Quinte Christian High School opened in Belleville in 1977, is moving to new building this year.

I hope schools section makes clear that Ontario funds both public and Roman Catholic schools from tax dollars. Albert College and the Quinte Christian High School are private schools that charge tuition.

I reodered things a little, but I'm not entirely happy with it. And I removed Bayside, since, as much as kids from Belleville go there, it doesn't belong here. --Flyingsquirrel 05:06, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Correct Favoritism on Mayor

The Mayor was falsely put down as a person in the running for Mayor. Since the election has not been held yet, I removed the reference to maintain neutrality of the article by presenting only the known facts and not speculation of the next mayor whoever it shall be.--LSX 06:16, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Notable Natives

Apparently, there are several people, of which are not even from Belleville and probably have never been there, do not believe that Jason Tam is not an attorney and a notable native. Even with cited references, the entry still gets deleted. I believe that they cannot believe that an Asian minority can be successful. Their beliefs stem from the common stereotype that our only uses are on the railroads, nail salons, and dry cleaners. Shame on you all.

  • Hello, and welcome. I'm sorry you keeping getting erased like that, but I think you'd have to admit, it looks awfully suspicious, and self-promotional. Even if the claims are true, having a made the bar usually isn't sufficient. We should probably limit the list to people who have articles here, or could plausibly have one. There are many lawyers (and other professionals) active around here who do not have articles. It is a matter of reliable, external coverage, and is not (supposed to be) disrespectful in any way. --Abu-Fool Danyal ibn Amir al-Makhiri 16:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • As an Asian Canadian I would ask that this person speaking in favour of Jason Tam not make this an issue of race. While I'm sure Jason Tam is a succesful person, Wikipedia is meant to be a resource that provides valuable information about important subjects, not just any notable persons from a specific area. Like the above poster said, one cannot list every lawyer or professional regardless of how much they've achieved. The key here is relevance. To suggest that this is about race is absolutely insulting and I can only hope that you were attempting to be, ahem, funny by bringing up those stereotypes. Please rethink your statements and accept that your information might not be considered a valuable contribution to the rest of us. Sorry. 74.12.134.225 00:30, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
  • I would just like to weigh in on this issue. Relevance, especially in terms of wikipedia, can be a relative term that is open to interpretation at best. I would like for those of you who question the relevance of Jason Tam to go speak to the 100's of Asian-Americans whose life he has singlehandedly made better by fighting for their rights. IF you were involved in the legal community, or civil rights community for that matter, you would know the impact Jason Tam has had in this community. Allow Mr. Tam to be known as a "notable native" from Belleville or not..that is up to you....but it is the town's loss for not being able to let ALL know...a true defender of justice hails from its borders. I am glad to know that Mr. Tam probably does not care one bit about wikipedia and this whole discussion...he would rather focus on important things.
  • I regret that what I said above still holds, but I am glad that Mr. Tam seems to have a good attitude about it, and I hope he knows that no disrespect is meant. May I also respectfully suggest that you follow his example, and focus on important things as well. Cheers, --Abu-Fool Danyal ibn Amir al-Makhiri 15:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
  • When my family's home was taken by the government to advance the construction of a Dollar General Store, I went to Jason Tam for advice. Not only were we able to keep our home, but we were awarded the largest jury verdict in a real estate case in Idaho history. Mr. Tam has written hundreds of articles for the Idao Bar News on every subject from negligence to nuisance. He's not simply a "successful attorney," but a noteworthy one whose has acquired substantial notariety. It's sad that the people from his hometown won't acknowledge his achievements because of race. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.162.176.102 (talk) 18:44, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Population

Belleville is a city and thus should not have metro data. Please refer to the city website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kepplo (talkcontribs) 23:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

To begin with, you appear to be a WP:SOCK of User:GoneHH, any comments on that? As for the population, this reference [3] clearly gives the populations of Belleville as 91,518 in 2006. Please stop reverting, you are also in violation of WP:3RR for your continual edit war on this page. Please do not make your changes again. Snowfire51 (talk) 23:48, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I have read through your talk page snowfire and you say everyone is either a sock or a troll. Second, read the web page and stats can, it clearly says ~46 no ~91. Stop changing the page simple because you are the editor. This is not the purpose of wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kepplo (talkcontribs) 23:52, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

StatsCan says Population in 2006 91,518. That is an authoritative source in my view. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 00:17, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Absolutely agree. We've never had a problem here until this editor, who appears to be doing this to make a point, began deleting and reverting. Snowfire51 (talk) 00:26, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure what the problem is. The city's population is listed, and the metro population is listed. Both are factual. Flibirigit (talk) 01:08, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Note: it turms out that Kepplo and GoneHH are both confirmed socks of the same person. See [[4]]. Wikidemo (talk) 18:31, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Quinte Region

The Quinte article is in dire need of a rewrite. Any interested or knowledgeable editors are asked to help. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 09:07, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

High Schools

I've noticed that Quinte Secondary School is missing from the High Schools list. It would also make an interesting article to both compile and read about. And I go there lol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.39.199.183 (talk) 16:27, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Origins of Name

The first paragraph says that 'Belleville' comes from the French phrase meaning 'beautiful city', where the History section says that it's named after Lady Arabella Gore. Which is it? It could be both, I realise, but maybe we should sort out which is the primary reason for the name. Do we have a source on this Lady Gore story? embryomystic (talk) 06:22, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I came across this source that confirms it is named after Gore's wife, mentioned in the last paragraph and on the following page.[5]--Ducio1234 (talk) 13:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Notable person: Jessica Lloyd?

I wanted to ask here if people think it's relevant to add Jessica Lloyd as a notable person. She was murdered by Col. Russell Williams this year, and it's been in the national news a lot as well as Maclean's magazine. Sources: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/02/13/ottawa-jessica-lloyd-funeral.html, http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/02/13/belleville-mourns-loss-of-jessica-lloyd/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.69.151.157 (talk) 21:47, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

The above was written by me, forgot to sign my name :P Autumn Veil (talk) 21:51, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
No, the unfortunate Ms.Lloyd isn't notable just because she was murdered. Please refer to Wikipedia:Notability (people). PKT(alk) 22:06, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
