Hello. I just opened this thread. But why does it have no contents box? Gun Powder Ma 05:57, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Miles[edit]

Hi, why are the measurements and actual distances given in English miles, instead of kilometres? We could also give them in Roman miles, of course, or Scots miles, or any other outdated measurement system, but it would be more fitting to a 21st-century encyclopaedia to use a modern unit which any educated person in the world knows. Note for the American readers of this talk page: the unit NASA uses, not that unit a contractor for NASA used, causing the loss of a Mars orbiter. Bever (talk) 21:54, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Because the page is written in English, the analogous English measurements are given. Conversion formulas can easily be found online. Kocinka (talk) 20:04, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kocinka, since reader's convenience is priority, we have the template to convert obsolete units (feet, inches, whatever, imagine measuring length in body parts in 21st century) to normal international units. 'Cause leaving them as is and forcing 99% of readers to search for conversion formulas is exactly what WP:SYSTEMICBIAS is about. Backward countries are a tiny minority, just look at this map. a!rado🦈 (CT) 05:35, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
