About this trivia item[edit]

This is about this: In the year 3004, the Earth is like its own country, but in the opening ceremonies you can see the flag of Canada marched out with the team, along with several other countries, such as the "Republic of French Stereotypes". Also, when the Planet Express crew went to go see Hermes (limboing for Jamaica) the Professor notices people rooting for Sweden and says "Sweden? I don't think so!" and rips up a banner that they are holding. It is similar to the United Kingdom's standing within the Commonwealth Games. The United Kingdom actually competes separately as England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Another explanation is simply that the Olympics are limited to Earth, with each nation competing much as they do now. This is supported by the fact that we see no aliens in the competitions (though we do see the robot nation of Cyberia).

Not only do I think that is longer than it needs to be, but it's completely unnesecary (and wrong to boot). The announcer at the stadium clearly says "Welcome to the 3004 Earth Olympiad", meainng that these Olympics are just for Earth and its countries (which seems fair, because we started them). There also appear to be interplanetary Olympics (as referenced in A Flight To Remember, Hermes was part of the Earth team).

I don't know if the best thing to do is remove that item, but I'm not particularly good at editing pages. --DK 09:46, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is clearly unverifiable original research on the part of some well meaning editor. I will remove it entirely. Stardust8212 15:31, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural references[edit]

Hermes racing against Barbados Slim, with the background music, the argument, the commentary and the clue, isn't it a reference to the film from 1993, cool runnings?
