THE TIMES QUOTE and its veracity

I've seen Bere Alston's election return for 1830 in the Kew Records office which is how I know it bears seven signatures.

There is a good report in "Wooler’s Exeter and Plymouth Gazette" for a by-election contest in Bere Alston that occurred in Jan 1831 and a very precise account of it in Spectator which is quoted in "The People's Book" (Google Book Serach for "Beeralston" and "Toll" to see book - then search for "Toll" to see quote ). Both accounts make it clear none of the by-election electors lived in the borough.

A report in "The Times" of the 1831 general election makes it clear none of the electors were resident then either.

I think it can be safely surmised then none of the "electors" in 1830 were resident

The Gazette article also refers to Dr Butter's rejection of nominations in 1830 as well - so that part of the 1830 Times article is probably correct.
