Discussion of Genitals[edit]

Could we please allow the article to be updated to the conventional wording "Assigned male at birth", as used in other trans* articles, rather than WP:POINTey editwarring about genitals? Newimpartial (talk) 11:33, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the entire mention of genitals as its completely unnecessary. It was stable for an extensive period of time under the prior wording, but this is an encyclopedia, not a venue for trans-jargon to be propagated. Except in rare medical cases, people are not 'assigned' gender at birth. That is a trans viewpoint based on philosophical views, not physical/medical ones. Either quote the wording directly from the source making clear its a quote, or use the factual description, or leave it out. Only in death does duty end (talk) 12:41, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are aware that legally and socially, gender is assigned at birth through such instruments as birth certificates, yes? That isn't a "philosophical view", it's a practical reality in most contemporary societies. It also isn't a "trans viewpoint" - it's pretty much common sense.
