  • ... that Bianca Smith, the first Black female coach in professional baseball history, has a J.D. degree in sports law and an MBA in sports management? Source: "The Red Sox have hired Bianca Smith as a Minor League coach, making her the first Black woman to serve as a coach in the history of professional baseball." (Boston Globe); "Doctor of Law (JD), sports law ... Master of Business Administration (MBA), sports management" (LinkedIn)

  • Long enough, new enough, etc. I don't like the LinkedIn referencing, but there's only one factoid that relies exclusively on that so I think we can let that slide. The hook is fine. Let's roll. Drmies (talk) 01:19, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Claim about JD[edit]

I’ve removed language from the article which claims Smith possesses a JD in sports law. JDs are generic law degrees that are necessary to work as a lawyer; they are not awarded for specializing in a certain field of law. If Smith took classes on sports law while in law school, then it would however be appropriate to state that she studied the topic. The article cited for the claim merely describes her as possessing a JD and specializing in sports law after the fact; it does not claim she possess a JD in sports law.
