First translation?[edit]

Inasmuch as the oldest Bibles in Japan, which are in Chinese, date from the ninth century, I'd be very surprised if the first Bible in Japanese was the Jesuit translation done in 1613.jonathon (talk) 12:15, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the editor forgets that Christianity apparently did not reach Japan until the 16th century. Furthermore, a good percentage of educated Japanese were able to read Chinese.--AuthorityTam (talk) 17:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the External Links to mp3s, small point - can I possibly ask, as a favour, if in view of WP:Weight that when adding this link to Bible translations into xxxx that you could perhaps do a quick Google and see if there are any of the main versions mentioned in the respective articles which could be added above the NWT mp3. The editor's suggestion is sound, and in fact I had performed such an internet search but without ready results; I spent more time today looking for such MP3 downloads-- again unsuccessfully. Admittedly, I do not read or write Japanese, so there seems reason to hope that an editor fluent in Japanese might have better results. I agree with User:In ictu oculi that additional External links would benefit this article's readers, and I'm glad that today I was at least able to add links to online (rather than downloadable) editions of different translations. While I'm not sure there is a weight issue, I've nodded toward WP:ELPOV and left just one line combining both NWT download links (one NWT audio and one NWT PDF but as one line-item).--AuthorityTam (talk) 17:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
