Self Imposed Guidelines For Bibliographic Entries[edit]

In creating and compiling this annotated bibliography of fly fishing, I have attempted to always list the first edition of the work, especially from a date and publisher standpoint. Many of the works listed or to be listed will have multiple editions/printings available from different publishers and may appear in either hardbound, softbound or both. I do not intend to list reprints, limited or special editions if the original edtion is listed. Revised or updated editions will be listed. --Mike Cline 10:56, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A additional guideline I imposed on myself is to list a title only once, even through it may fall equally in a number of the categories.--Mike Cline 19:16, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV[edit]

"an argument that today seems", "readable but comprehensive", "excellent read", "probably the most", "beautiful compilation", "masterfully", "transcends the cavalier attitude", "very nicely written", "superbly told", &c. — according to whom? If these are merely your personal opinions Mike Cline, they don't belong in Wikipedia. If they aren't your opinions, then please tell readers whose opinions they are and attribute them properly. Uncle G (talk) 15:38, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Uncle G, Indeed they are not my opinions but in most cases paraphrased from some form of notable review--either by other prominent Fly fishing authorities or as part of larger, academic and scholarly reviews of literature of the sport. Although it will take a bit of time, I will do my best to provide cites for all the annotations. Thanks for your advice.--Mike Cline (talk) 22:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A proposal: "Matching the Hatch" by Schweibert should be added to the "clasics" list[edit]

Absolutely a classic: the book's premise--that the life cycles of important food insects on the stream should guide the fisherman's choice of fly--is as fundamental to modern fly fishing as the casting stroke.

Schweibert Jr., Ernest G, Matching The Hatch, Macmillan 1955

Kaushal. Please add it. This article needs other contributors. I am surprised I haven't done it myself. However, per Uncle G's admonitions above, please cite sources for your annotations.--Mike Cline (talk) 21:07, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Per WP:MOS, this article should be titled "Annotated bibliography of fly fishing", with "Annotated Bibliography of Fly Fishing" redirecting to the lowercase title, rather than the other way around. --Lquilter (talk) 20:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - a copy/paste move has been performed which will need to be fixed. Also, should this page not titled "List of..."? Whydontyoucallme dantheman (talk) 22:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, hopefully closing admin can fix this. w/r/t the title, I think "Annotated bibliography..." should be sufficient; a bibliography is a list. But I haven't checked style on that. --Lquilter (talk) 23:38, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • My apologies for making the cut/paste move. As you can tell I completely concur. Although I contribute regularly to WP, I must bone up on some of the more technical aspects of maintaining this thing to avoid this in the future.--Mike Cline (talk) 13:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • No problem! there are admin superpowers that will fix it all up. <g> --Lquilter (talk) 14:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's taken care of, with the history merged back together. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. -GTBacchus(talk) 09:30, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A major reformatting and split made[edit]

This single bibliography was getting a bit too large to manage and the table format was unwieldy for the large number of entries. Changes format to a more traditional bulleted list and split off two new Bibliographies: Bibliography of fly fishing (species related) and Bibliography of fly fishing (fly tying, stories, fiction) to create more managable lists.--Mike Cline (talk) 19:43, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
