Edit Request: Out-of-date paragraph[edit]

This paragraph:

BioWare is currently working on at least four further projects. The MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic will be based on BioWare's previous contribution to the Star Wars franchise,[8] and was announced on 21 October 2008, although BioWare had first mentioned an unspecified new collaboration with LucasArts in October the previous year.[9] The other projects are a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 3 and an additional project about which no details have yet been revealed.[10][11][12]

is way out of date. SWTOR and the sequel to Dragon Age Origins have already been released, and Mass Effect 3 is releasing in a couple days - and the unnamed game is Command and Conquer Generals. 65.42.26.190 (talk) 13:37, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is obsidian studios and Bioware friends or something?[edit]

because i don't know why bioware didn't make kotor 2: the sith lords?

why didn't they?

Pece Kocovski 00:07, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BioWare has decided to only make games of their own Intellectual Properties (i.e. games based on settings that they created themselves). Since they are much bigger and more popular than before, they were probably getting tired of being ordered around by Wizards of the Coast (for DnD games) and LucasArts (for Star Wars games). Whoever has the IP can decide what is and is not in the game. Wizards and LucasArts blocked several of BioWare's ideas for the games for one reason or another. Therefore, BioWare went off to create their own settings (Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age) so that they could do what they want without being "moderated" by another company. --DarthMuffin 02:54, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • But BioWare still has to answer to EA along with LucasArts, so I'm surprised EA didn't make BioWare make the sequel since publishers are known to do different things like that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.26.90.236 (talk) 03:50, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jade Empire 2[edit]

If this game is only rumored to be in development, then why is it on the billing of the BioWare Games template? That's unencyclopedic, but I'm not going to remove it because I don't know if it is more than rumor as of now. Treima 14:41, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked around and I can find no mention of BioWare saying they are defiantly making or not making a JE2. Although they are working on an unnamed next-gen title which probably is it. Anyway, if no one minds, until it is confirmed I'll remove it from the list. Auxfusion 13:59, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incoherence in the game listing[edit]

The list has NeverWinter Nights: Kingmaker (which is a premium module) but not the other premium modules (Pirates of the Sword Coast, Wich's Wake, ShadowGuard and Wyvern Crown of Cormyr). It should be removed. --DarthMuffin 02:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it. We will see many small premium modules coming up in the next two years for Dragon Age. It wouldn't make any sense to list them as they are no real games. --Typhix (talk) 13:49, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Last unnamed title[edit]

See [1] second to last answer. The titles in development are Dragon Age, Mass Effect, an MMO, a DS game and another unannounced next generation game in the works

Augustine Yip?[edit]

It appears that the initial mention of Augustine Yip as a co-founder was removed from the article, however he is still mentioned where it says that he returned to medicine. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.29.233.193 (talk) 17:55, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

The MMO[edit]

http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/10/19/biowares-upcoming-mmo-based-in-kotor-universe/

probably not a reputable enough source, but this rumour has been flying around for years and years (especially since Bioware opened up shop in Austin) that they were in talks to make "SWG2". Now whereas this may not exactly be SWG2, and "only" KOTOR, makes perfect sense - possibly deserves a mention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scuzzmonkey (talkcontribs) 17:30, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EA bought Bioware[edit]

How come this isn't anywere in the article?

It is mentioned in the lead section. --guyzero | talk 17:53, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It mentions that they are currently owned by EA, but in the History section it's never mentioned and nowhere in the article is a date given for the purchase. 50.89.174.229 (talk) 14:48, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Refer to the paragraph that starts with "The next few years saw a number of changes..." It clearly states that BioWare and Pandemic merged into the VG Holding Corp, which was then bought over by the EA on October 11, 2007. --Koveras  12:05, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Console RPGs?[edit]

I was under the impression that Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire were originally developed for PC, but that Microsoft pressured Bioware to hold off on the PC releases and release Xbox versions first. 71.203.209.0 (talk) 23:11, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure this isn't the case for KOTOR since there were lots of complaints about poor porting and a number of people suggested at the time it was a mistake for them to develop for the Xbox and port to the PC rather then the reverse. I'm not sure about JE but from what I've seen and heard it sounds more like JE on the PC is a port of an Xbox game then being an original PC game. Nil Einne (talk) 10:44, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New KOTOR Just a Rumor (So Far) Folks[edit]

New sources indicate the new KOTOR rumor was the result of a misreading of the EA analyst report. See here http://play.tm/story/16168 and here http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51314 --Nivenus (talk) 20:30, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has been debunked by Bioware employees several times on the official forums. KOTOR was only mentioned because it is one of their most famous games. They are not going to make a new KOTOR, however there is a possibility that the MMO will be set in the KOTOR universe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.250.15.206 (talk) 03:02, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of Baldur's Gate[edit]

I'm confused, can anyone clear up what it means to say that BioWare created Baldur's Gate? Is there some connection between BioWare (or its parents...?) and Interplay, where Black Isle was? When I played BG I remember there being credit sequences at the beginning for Black Isle and TSR, I figured Black Isle made it with TSR supplying IP and $$. I mean those little sequences that played at the beginning of every boot of the game, it zoomed in on an island and then there was a flash of lightning ending with the Black Isle logo. Callowschoolboy (talk) 16:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Black Isle only published Baldur's Gate, Bioware developed it. 129.65.103.103 (talk) 22:17, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It worked basically like this, TSR gave Interplay the exclusive right to publish D&D games (much like Atari has now), Bioware created the game, Interplay published it under the Black Isle Studios name, and BIS provided some oversight/assistance.

History[edit]

For a company that was founded in 1995, why does the history start in 2005? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.14.105.35 (talk) 02:35, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that section needs to be updated. Bioware was around long before the merger with Pandemic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.181.0.67 (talk) 02:39, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dragon Age Journeys[edit]

Could someone remove DAJ from the list of Bioware games? It is in fact developed by EA2D. http://www.dragonagejourneys.com/ (look at the bottom right, 'an EA2D production'. It is also described as an EA2D game on the forums. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.111.138.117 (talk) 04:29, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pre-EA company history[edit]

The company history section hardly says anything beyond repeating which games that made Bioware famous. I would really appreciate if the pre-EA years were expanded, thus the template in the text. Thanks, CapnZapp (talk) 20:46, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dragon Age II and the Lycium Engine[edit]

Dragon Age II is listed as using the Lycium Engine. Is there any new information about the differences between this engine and the Eclipse Engine? In an interview about the game, Lycium is only briefly mentioned as being an evolved version of Eclipse. Surely there must be some differences worth mentioning, or has Bioware successfully kept all information regarding this new feature a close kept secret? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.156.175.183 (talk) 19:23, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It't not Lycium, I think this entitling was an innocent error. In an interview with Gamasutra, Mike Laidlaw called it Eclipse 2.0, the LYRIUM engine. All the other information put forth is correct, it is an evolved version of the engine used in Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening. This engine was built for the Dragon Age games, "from the ground up." <http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6297/the_rise_of_dragon_age_ii.php?page=2> —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.207.225.26 (talk) 22:58, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your eagerness but the info you added is already contained in the DA2 article. If you want to move it to this article, remove it from the other one, otherwise leave them as is. Redundancy is not good. --Koveras  21:17, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from , 24 October 2011 - EA2D is now part of BioWare[edit]

EA2D is now BioWare San Francisco so there are 6 studios. See http://www.ea2d.com/

It should perhaps now read: The BioWare group of studios is now six studios (BioWare Edmonton, BioWare Austin, BioWare Mythic, BioWare Montreal, BioWare Ireland and BioWare San Francisco )

Mass Effect 3 ending[edit]

I was surprised that the controversy about the Mass Effect 3 ending is not currently included under the "Controversies" section, as it has been in the gaming press for weeks now; for example, the Better Business Bureau statement, "Did BioWare falsely advertise? Technically, yes, they did."[2] - hopefully this can be added by someone more knowledgeable about it than me? -- Mecandes (talk) 16:47, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's because a description of Mass Effect 3 ending controversy is easier to find on the Mass Effect 3 page, where it is indeed found, and redundancy is to be avoided. --Koveras  05:49, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BioWare Mythic[edit]

Do we put some of BioWare Mythic's games in the games list (the games they made after they merged with BioWare)? Lacon432 (talk) 21:37, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not to sound exclusive, but since we already have a separate article for them, I think it's best to sort the games accordingly. If we had separate articles for other sub-studios, I'd support splitting the list, as well... --Koveras  05:40, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reception section[edit]

Do we really need this table? These are just aggregated numbers of questionable usefulness without the reviews behind them. We already have the reception sections in almost every article about BioWare games, which are linked from this page. The only use I can see for a table here is to show how the reviews of the games produced by BioWare fluctuated over time, which borders on original research and is of dubious significance, anyway, since the scores represent the reception of the individual games and not the overall reception of the studio (and by whom?), as the section's title implies. --Koveras  11:36, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Games Listing: New IP[edit]

I've seen several times Bioware mentioning an untitled IP. For example, in the Mass Effect E3 demo last year and in the Shadow Realms cancellation release. In other words, it is not Shadow Realms. Shouldn't this be added to the games listing or is there a reason for not including it yet? TheUnknown285 (talk) 19:02, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think these two entries should be removed from the Game section[edit]

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Galactic Starfighter Star Wars: The Old Republic – Galactic Strongholds

Reasoning; they were additions to the game but not anywhere the size or scope usually understood as an "expansion."

There is no "Untitled Star Wars Project"[edit]

I've read the citation and it mentions Bioware as working on Star Wars, along with a bunch of other studios, but it doesn't directly refer to a new game from them. I'm pretty sure it's simply referring to Star Wars: The Old Republic which is still in active development but is not a new project. So I think it should be removed. 2A02:C7D:362F:4500:B9DE:BE24:BD28:CF2 (talk) 23:54, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
