Punches, pulls, and "the Bumps"
I checked each reference and each text (Google Books) for that section and only one reference mentioned Bumps at http://kidsparties.com/TraditionsInDifferentCountries.htm and then only one short mention for UK and Ireland. I can say from from my own experience that birthday bumps are pretty common in India. So there is nothing made up about this here. I cannot speak for the other countries mentioned, though. "Birthday Beatings" as they are often called in Canada are a common phenomena. The title of this portion of the article could be changed to a more appropriate one.
Never heard of it in New Zealand. I think it is less common than suggested. No doubt it is a recent American import - as most illogical, vulgar or abusive "customs" are.Royalcourtier (talk) 06:53, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
