2006 untitled[edit]

Looks like we need a disambiguation page for the song and the Oates novella.--TurabianNights 19:53, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Single[edit]

I read that "Black Water" was originally the b-side to another Doobies' song. What was the A-side? - 64.57.107.238 (talk) 20:28, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Different left- and right-speaker tracks[edit]

Has anyone else noticed that, when you listen to this song in a car, the a cappella section has different vocal parts for the left and right speakers? It almost makes it sound like there are different groups of musicians on both sides of you. It's quite a cool experience, almost like watching a movie in 3D. Are there any other songs that have this phenomenon, or is "Black Water" unique in this respect? Stonemason89 (talk) 18:20, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Train Song[edit]

The new song I Got You heavily samples and uses lyrics from Black Water. Maybe this should be included? I don't know how to edit it properly. 5 January 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.179.173.61 (talk)

The article doesn't mention the violin or viola that accompanies the guitar. A violin player told me it's a viola, I can't tell the difference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.230.173.33 (talk) 22:47, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to undo my work fine but...[edit]

I'm surprised by the deletion of my table citing how Simmons makes local references when performing the song live: yes the info is peripheral but that's why I set it up in a collapsible table which disinterested parties could ignore. I'm not saying the Wikipedia policies cited as regards the table's deletion couldn't be applied, but IMHO in this instance the purported breach of these policies isn't so absolute that an editor with no predilection for deleting info would be moved to act. But - whatever! IMHO the fact that Simmons makes local references when performing the song life is relevant to the subject but I'm not moved to take any steps over it at this point in time. But what gives with making a deletion which undermines the page set-up and not taking responsibility for adjusting it? I'm referring to the quote box containing the song's opening lines which - as stated in the article - was positioned to the right of the first paragraph of Section 1: the deletion of the table left the quote box essentially buried out of sight underneath the infoboxes. If nothing else it's an editorial responsibility to change the text from "see Quote Box to the right" if an edit moves the Quote Box to a different position. I've edited the article myself now to restore the Quote Box to the cited position and don't mind doing so, but this episode seems to exemplify an editorial mindset which equates editing with elimination. --Cherrylimerickey (talk) 21:45, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If it's important, it's required not to be collapsed by WP:MOSCOLLAPSE. When one uncollapses it, the content has the wrong WP:WEIGHT (also a problem if it's not important). The way we assess importance is by having reliable secondary sources to provide us an indication that the lyrics customization is something to be noted. It looks like most of the references give a citation for the change in lyrics, so we've got the verification piece. Now, I don't think it's necessary to list all of the locations where he has changed the lyrics, nor which lyrics were changed in the process, especially since most artists do so. If you go and take a look at most of the featured articles which deal with specific songs, I doubt you'd find information like this, because of that fact.

You are always welcome to change an article to try to come to a consensus version. --Izno (talk) 12:33, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well - if your edit was an evocation of WP:MOSCOLLAPSE I wonder why you previously cited several other policies but not that one. And honestly having viewed WP:MOSCOLLAPSE I see nothing that forbids how I set up the table but then as with all the policies cited as basis to delete my work it's a discretion call. As is the contention that the localized lyric change is non-notable - altho I will say I have never heard of another song where the performer is wont to regularly change the lyrics to accord with the performance venue locale. Perhaps you could pass on just one of the many examples you no doubt have at your fingertips? But while I don't agree with the deletion, as I previously stated - whatever! As indicated by the header for this section: "If you want to undo my work fine but...", I'll accept your edit, but if your good faith deletion of my table threw out the structure of the article I'd contend it was your responsibility to follow-up your deletion with a remedial edit: either change the statement "see Quote Box to the right" to "see Quote Box in lower right hand corner" or - what would obviously be preferable and what it was left for me to do - revamp the article so that the Quote Box again appears "to the right". --Cherrylimerickey (talk) 21:07, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

MOSCOLLAPSE requires you not to collapse the content. So I first considered uncollapsing the content. On review of the content in question, I found it of questionable value to the article (c.f. WP:GA/WP:FA quality content; see also the various policies/guidelines I have so-far referenced). So I removed it.

I'll decline to provide such an anecdote.

If you don't agree with the deletion, then how would you like to re-add the information back to the article? As I suggested already, consensus is policy. So is WP:WEIGHT.

I am not obligated to anything (see WP:Volunteers), and as it is, you seem to have figured out how to make the article look presentable again--a change which I have not reverted. --Izno (talk) 14:01, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Guitars[edit]

I reverted an unsourced edit that suggested that Tom Johnston only contributed backing vocals, but I think it's highly unlikely that he would've been just focusing on singing, since he did play guitar on the song live, so I imagine that he would've done so on the record. He didn't fall sick until the eve of the "Stampede" tour and he had to retire from the band temporarily, hence that Michael McDonald was recruited. 60.240.8.249 (talk) 12:01, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
