Virginia landmark[edit]

Gradient[edit]

What might the gradient(s) through the old and new tunnels be, and were there any fume problems?

Loading Gauge[edit]

The picture of the Old BR Tunnel looks rather small and even English. Is there a comparible picture of the new BR Tunnel??

Tunnel Length[edit]

I have seen many different stated lengths for this tunnel as I have researched it, and think we should decide on one for use across the Wikipedia articles that mention it. Most of the early documents, including corporate documents, and a few books list 4,262 ft as the length, while other sources, such as the C&O Historical Society, list 4,263. Other sources describe the tunnel as 4,273 ft. I thought I would bring it up here so we could reach a consensus and have a consistent length for Wikipedia. What are your thoughts? Also note that this does not only apply to the Blue Ridge Tunnel, but also the other tunnels on the Blue Ridge Railroad and Virginia Central Railroad. Please see Virginia Central Railroad for a list of tunnels and some notes regarding length ambiguity (currently the table uses a document from the C&O Railway). Location[edit]

Date typo, or vandalism? Construction until 1960, or 1860?[edit]

In Construction section, 5th paragraph in, says: "Construction began in 1850 and was expected to be completed in three years but the first train passed through the tunnel in 1858 and construction continued until 1960." ^[7] I imagine the last date should be 1860?
