Colors and Mascot[edit]

Blue Ridge school colors are (royal) purple and gold. Yellow is used as a replacement for gold, not because the school colors actually include yellow. It is Payson Unified School District that uses purple and yellow. Hence the old Blue Ridge vs. Payson high school football joke: "Purple will win tonight."

Yellow Jacket is two words, not one, and the version currently in use is based off of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket. Before that the various yellow jacket mascots used by Blue Ridge were all nicknamed "bees" (baby bee, junior bee, band bee, sports bee, etc). The exception was Blue Ridge Junior High whiched used a Blue Jay mascot instead.

As someone who did K-12 at Blue Ridge, even I thought using a Blue Jay mascot was dumb, especially since the jays that actually lived in the area were Steller's Jays and not Blue Jays. All the mascots in the school were switched to the "Georgia Tech Bee" in the late 1990s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.10.125.53 (talk) 01:06, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
