Bob Roll was a gentleman in person at the Tour of Hope. He graciously talked to people, signed autographs, and posed for pictures. RockinRobTalk 23:31, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think "xenophobia" is the right word for the sentiment trying to be expressed at the end of the main article. "Ethnocentrism" doesn't quite work either, but I'd like to find a better word than "homer-ism." Aha, I've found it: "nativism."

Bobke is neither ethnocentric nor nativist. He speaks French and Flemish fluently and I believe he lived in Belgium for some time. The "Tour Day Frants" pronunciation is a deliberate jab at snotty elitist Frenchmen and women.--Milo rules 02:02, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These are great opinions. Once we get a valid citation, we can put mention it in the article. --ZimZalaBim talk 02:16, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Will this do? Although the column was an opinion piece, it quoted Bob directly.

"On Tour," says Roll, a former professional cyclist and member of the original 7-Eleven cycling team, "no matter how perfectly you spoke French, [French waiters] pretended like they didn't understand you. That got old real fast. To get revenge, I decided to mispronounce as many French words as I could. Then I got to doing it all the time. The class system is still really prevalent here. And [the language] is a little pretentious..." Roll says a French phrase, which sounds dead-on. "That sounds pretentious -- it doesn't add to that American commentary idea." In Bob's book, "Bobke II," and in other interviews, he says that his intentional mispronounciation is due to the fact that when he was with the 7-Eleven Team (the first US based team to race in Europe), French waiters and waitresses in restaurants would be extra critical of the French spoken by himself and his teammates, which was passable, but apparently, not up to their high standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.84.154.42 (talk) 01:52, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the inappropriate comments regarding the Frank Schleck doping allegations. It was propaganda. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.9.237 (talk) 01:22, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
