Inbreeding[edit]

Mating between 3rd2nd cousins counts as inbreeding (just) according to [1]  Tigerboy1966  12:59, 10 May 2012 (UTC) See also.[2] The term may have some pejorative connotations, but not in Tb breeding surely. (or in my family btw- my grandad and grandma were second cousins!)  Tigerboy1966  15:57, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The horse joke runs like this: "if it works, it's linebreeding; if it doesn't work, it's inbreeding. (grin) I think you can discuss stuff like the inbreeding coefficient without trouble but "linebreeding" is considered less loaded as a term in the USA. Here, "inbred" is a pretty perjorative term, usually with implications of inbreeding depression or genetic weakness (Northern Dancer is actually controversial in that regard because his bloodline is linked to early breakdowns on the track), and culturally because we have some states down south (including Kentucky, TB horse breeding HQ) that let human first cousins marry, encouraging people like comedian [{Jeff Foxworthy]] to say stuff like "you know you're a redneck if your family tree doesn't branch." (grin) Kind of complex. Montanabw(talk) 01:25, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Importance[edit]

I've set importance to "mid" for Horse Racing for now due to Bodemeister possibly running in the Preakness. Froggerlaura ribbit 15:17, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Back to low, he's one of this year's contenders, but won't be going to the Belmont. We can always raise him up again later if he goes Horse of the Year or something. Montanabw(talk) 22:54, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
