buddhist temples[edit]

It seems strange that the "buddhist temples" section says that certain countries contain buddhist temples. I suspect it should be clarified to say that buddhist temples of a specific kind are present in the countries listed. Buddhist temples exist in the US, Europe, and many other places, in addition to those countries listed. 140.90.208.67 17:19, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you have never visited or read about Bodh Gaya, and your knowledge about the place is based on what you have read here. In a sense, you are right as the contents fails to convey the proper meaning: there are many other temples in Bodh Gaya, and these temples have been built by different countries mentioned in the page. Some other day, I shall properly re-word the contents to make the meaning more clear. --Bhadani

Time taken to obtain enlightenment[edit]

The article on Gautama Buddha says that it took him 49 days of meditating to obtain enlightenment, however the History section of this article says that it only took 3 days, Is there a mistake or am I mixing things up? 81.137.148.225 14:13, 8 March 2007 (UTC) Melissa[reply]

I already told you why. The quality of the images is too low. El_C 15:51, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want us to include your advertisment-intensive, personal image webpage, at least give us the original resolution, or close to it (anything above 800px — 300px will not do). El_C 15:58, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New: Faxian's dates have 'AC' after: presumably this should be AD. I don't know how to edit this. If someone agrees please change it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.177.17.101 (talk) 18:17, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John Crawfurd's mention on his mission to Siam[edit]

John Crawfurd wrote:

He was also particularly anxious to ascertain whether the British Government would permit Siamese pilgrims to visit Magada [sic]. I need scarcely add, that the country alluded to is the British province of Bahar [sic], and more especially that portion of it called Buddha Gya [sic].[1]

Hi I've edited this page of every citation needed and added some more thing but how to verify it Zedgamer9128 (talk) 11:18, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical section under History[edit]

The biographical section under History needs editing and hyperlinking. Even the spelling is not consistent, so it wasn't clear to me at first that these events happened at Bodh Gaya. That should be the main emphasis of this section: what happened here, not doctrine. Mdmcginn (talk) 22:24, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Obtained enlightenment[edit]

The article currently says "obtained enlightenment". This word says that enlightenment is an object that Buddha came into possession of, with an implication that he received it from someone else, possibly for a price. This doesn't seem consistent with Buddhism to me.

The word more commonly used is "attained", which has a meaning close to "reached". This has no connotations of commerce.

If you really do mean "obtained" rather than "attained", you owe an explanation of how much it cost Buddha to purchase Enlightenment, and who was selling it.

Any such explanation is, in my opinion, likely to be laughable to most Buddhists. 203.116.192.194 (talk) 14:33, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If I could obtain enlightenment for a mere five bucks, rest assured, I would already have done so, hence would not be here in samsara with you editing wikipedia. 203.116.192.194 (talk) 14:37, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
