Coordinate error[edit]

The coordinates need the following fixes: Bodie Island Lighthouse is near Latitude 35°49'6.51"N Longitude 75°33'49.73"W The existing coordinates (for Google Earth at least) are for the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Consensus to move. I did not find the nominators argument persuasive. However I found Dicklyon's argument to be so( based on "Recognizability – The title is a name or description of the subject that someone familiar with, although not necessarily an expert in"), while the arguments for keeping it at "Light" seem to be based on sources for specialist/experts rather than generalists, and it is generalist sources with the word "lighthouse" in the title that have been used and cited in the article. -- PBS (talk) 16:23, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bodie Island LightBodie Island Lighthouse – The current title is confusing. The current title makes it seem that there is light emanating from Bodie Island itself instead of the lighthouse. 3er40 (talk) 22:19, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Why not just withdraw this request and boldly move the page? I do not see this being contested, move requests are usually for pages that have been contested in the past or for those who get a-lot of traffic. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 23:49, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • I tried to, but it said I wasn't able to. Apparently the name is already taken by a redirect page, and I'm not sure if I have permission to delete the redirect page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3er40 (talkcontribs) 02:32, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • Ask over at WP:AN the admin noticeboard. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:37, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
        • Ok, I will do that tomorrow. Thanks! And how do I withdraw my request for a move exactly? Sorry, I'm still a bit new to how wikipedia works. 3er40 (talk) 02:47, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
          • Knowledgekid87, 3er40, often the easier way for non-controversial moves is WP:RMT, which lets an admin move what is clearly going to be a quick move request. But this one might theoretically have someone oppose, so I think you did alright in proposing it this way. Welcome to Wikipedia, 3er40! smile Red Slash 03:30, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
            • User:3er40, I agree with User:Red Slash. You did the right thing by posting it through the WP:RM process if you think a renaming (move) might be controversial. If you think this move is not controversial, WP:AN is not the way to do it. Instead, post it at WP:RM#Uncontroversial technical requests (=WP:RMT) with the following template: {{subst:RMassist|<!--old page name, without brackets-->|<!--requested name, without brackets-->|<!--reason for move-->}} This is explained at WP:RM#Requesting technical moves. you can remove this request by deleting the top line in this section that reads: {{Requested move/dated|Bodie Island Lighthouse}} Good luck. —  AjaxSmack  03:36, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
              • Okay, thanks guys! I won't withdraw this though, due to the ongoing discussions and votes. And thanks Slash for the welcome! 3er40 (talk) 15:21, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I cant think of anything that would be an oppose to this. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 03:40, 21 January 2014 (UTC) Per below I stand corrected. While I understand there is a trend to call lighthouses "Light" in the name in this case the common-name seems to be lighthouse. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 12:54, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note that all other articles on List of lighthouses in North Carolina are at "XXX Light" and not XXX Lighthouse'. Almost all lighthouses in the US are also so titled. The issue has been discussed before here, here, and here. I have posted a note at WT:WikiProject Lighthouses to elicit more input.  AjaxSmack  03:54, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • oppose It's one thing to argue about old lights; this one is active and therefore is named "Bodie Island Light" by the Coast Guard, as you can see on charts and the like. Mangoe (talk) 04:00, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Guinea Pig is named Cavia porcellus by scientists but the commonname in that case is guinea pig, I think that can be a fair comparison. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 19:57, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Many lighthouses use the word "Light" in their names. No indication the current title isn't the common name. Hot Stop 04:21, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – it seems the sailors have a local consensus to use things like the Coast Guard official light names, even though the article is more about the lighthouse than about the navigation light itself, and even though the lighthouse name is much more common in books: [1] vs [2]. Let's fix this. Dicklyon (talk) 06:44, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Per common use and links Dicklyon provided (and even note that some of the hits for "Bodie Island Light" call it "Bodie Island Light House"; only forty Google Books hits use it without "-house" or " House""bodie+island+light"+-"bodie+island+light+house"). -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:40, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question - Is this a choice between two names for the structure (it's OFFICIAL NAME vs a COMMONNAME)... or is a choice of title between a name and a description? If the first, then follow the sources and see if there is a COMMONNAME. If the latter, we have more flexibility. Blueboar (talk) 13:46, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody has proposed a lowercase generic alternative; I don't think that would be appropriate here. Dicklyon (talk) 16:07, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removing the insufficient inline citations Template Box.[edit]

The page has this box at the very beginning : "This article includes a list of references, but its sources remain unclear because it has insufficient inline citations. Please help to improve this article by introducing more precise citations. (January 2014)".

It seems there are currently enough citations to have this box removed, but I am an inexperienced editor so: 1. I don't know how to remove it, and 2. I'm not sure what constitutes "sufficient inline citations" to have it removed.

Thanks for any help, Deadvoodoo (talk) 07:41, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
