Location[edit]

In going through the sources, the location varies between Madisonville and Bolivar. Because those two towns are not adjacent, this was a mystery. The oldest sources I could find were newspaper articles referencing the General Assembly voting to approve the academy's incorporation. In the 1850s, I started to see some articles and one ad that mentioned Bolivar. However, articles and ads after that date indicate Madisonville. Around the same time, there started to be a newspaper for Bolivar. The solution is possibly found in those charter mentions, as the school was chartered in Hardeman County. This is the location of Bolivar in western TN, while today's Madisonville is in Monroe County in eastern TN. Thus, there must have been two towns known as Madisonville. Either that, or there were two schools with the same name at the same time which seems unlikely. Rublamb (talk) 12:58, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating this article and finding all these citations. We need further help from the Wikipedia community. Good research so far, yet I sense that all this is pointing to the existence of two schools, created 350 miles apart on opposite ends of Tennessee. If that proves true, this article may then have to be split; or, if they merged, the history section will have to elaborate on the two branches. I just wrote to the Delta Gamma historian to ask for any details they might have, in their records. Jax MN (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Having determined there were to schools with the same name, I have split this into two articles. The new article is Bolivar Female Academy and is about the the preparatory and finishing school in Bolivar, Tennessee. Rublamb (talk) 23:43, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
