It is not clear to me that the domatia are true domatia (rather than galls resulting from parasitism) and that the relationship is symbiotic, and if so in which sense (such as mutualism). I realise that www.plantzafrica.com uses the term, but they do not give a ref, or even an explanation in support. Personally it looks to me more like mild parasitism causing the shelters to form, which would support the view that the distortions are galls; I have done no work on this, but does anyone have any material reason to support the claim in the article as it stands, even if only by analogy to related hollows on other species of leaves?
