[1] Google maps offers many things located in Brighton Park, so it doesn't appear to be a hoax. Stefán 18:44, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Neighborhood and a Community Area[edit]

Brighton Park is recognized by the City of Chicago as a "Neighborhood," but the area is also one of Chicago's Community Areas. When "Chicago Community Areas" were established, many of them adopted the name of the predominant neighborhood of each area. A great example of the intermingling of the two is easily seen when the splitting of Uptown Community Area is inspected closely. The 'Edgewater Neighborhood' has extensive history in Chicago; yet, before Uptown Community Area was split, residents of the Edgewater Neighborhood felt slighted because of the lack of mention of the Edgewater Neighborhood. 70.232.10.25 19:40, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Arow Blackdragon[reply]

Brighton Park History[edit]

By 1851, a small settlement 6 miles SW of The Loop took the name of an English livestock market and became known as Brighton Park. Later that decade, and into the 1960's, Brighton Park developed into a livestock trading center with the building of a stockyard and the U.S. Agricultural Society's organization of an 1861 State Fair. Although the opening of the Union Stock Yard in 1865 forced the closure of Brighton's yards, the area attracted other industries. Brighton Park on Encyclopedia of Chicago History
