Untitled comments[edit]

"Tekkatho" and "Theippan" should remove from Honorific name table. They were only used by colonial age writers as part of their Pseudonym and no one use them today. Everything's gonna B OK (talk) 12:45, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right: they aren't widely used today. But this table doesn't claim that; the purpose of this table is to provide a concise reference of the names of the Burmese people of today and yesterday. Surely, you don't mean to suggest that we remove Thakin from the list; how would we explain the names like Thakin Aung San? Btw, Tekkatho wasn't just a colonial era term; it was still widely used by writers who came of age in the 1960s and 1970s. E.g. Tekkatho Tin Myint. Hybernator (talk) 15:02, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Salai Rungtoi: The term for the ethnic minority is Kuki people, not "Chin". Chin is a Burmese term, not the autonym nor the WP:COMMONNAME. Ogress _smash! 18:11, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed re how to classify Burmese names as mononymous[edit]

Burmese name article talk[edit]

This Burmese name article also contains other ethnic minority names, including Mon name, so the title should be changed to Myanmar name. Although we Mon people live in Burma, we are not Burmese, we Mon people used to have our own country and lost the war and became stateless today, we Mon people have our own literature and our own culture, the 33 consonants used by Burmese people are the Mon Pali consonants. There are two types of Mon consonants, 33 Mon Pali consonants and 35 Mon consonants, the 33 Mon Pali consonants are the 33 consonants used exclusively by the Mon monk, there are two types of Mon language: Mon Pali and plain Mon, that's why I don't like the Mon name being mixed with the Burmese name, the Mon name is not a name derived from Burmese, so I have to change the Burmese name article to Myanmar name, changing the name from Burmese name to Myanmar name is appropriate for the ethnic groups in Burma, thanks.^{«Intobesa (talk)»} 06:56, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@咽頭べさ: Lol. Every citizen of Burma regardless of ethnicity is Burmese. If this article doesn't contain other ethnic minority names, it should be called Burman names. (Burmese = Kachin + Karenni + Karen + Chin + Mon + Burman + Arakanese + Shan + ...) နေနီဝန်း (talk) 19:08, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
