First Match[edit]

Article claims Chester played in first match at the new stadium in July 2005, but most news stories recently have a match against Man Utd reserves as the first. Grunners 14:40, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The first match at the Pirelli WAS against Chester. The Man Utd reserves game was the *Official* opening, but came four months after the ground first started to be used. So technically they're both correct.

Out of Proportion?[edit]

Isn't the discussion of the Man Utd match a bit out of proportion with the rest of the article?

No not at all. The Man Utd matches represent the most important period for the club both in footballing terms and the financial stability of the club. It would be churlish to suggest otherwise. Captain McVitie 16:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I agree with the first question. Yes it is important but doesn't fit into the history naturally. My other, and biggest, issue with this article is that the club's longest serving manager of 10 years - Nigel Clough - barely gets a mention. Not sure how it's evolved in the last 16 months, but as of now, given the tag still remains... it should be clearly pointed out... the "recentism" slant isn't because there's too much material on the recent team... but because there's a bit too little on the earlier team. Three paragraphs (nine pretty small sentences, at that) on the past couple seasons is comparable to the amount given even at poorer performing, lower tier clubs. And the years before that aren't bad either really. Maybe could cut a sentence or two from the Manchester United game (though to be fair, that's not the top recency, and is a valid big deal). But the real need is someone who knows a lot about the history of the club to go through and add a sentence or two more about each decade, and then it seems to me (someone entirely impartial to the team, neither fan nor foe) that it'd be good.

Nigel Clough[edit]

The biggest issue I have with the entire "History" section is that there is barely a mention of Nigel Clough. He was the longest serving manager in the history of the club and secured them promotion in his time there. History section[edit]

As the history section is being expanded, would it make sense to introduce sub-headings to make it more readable? One option would be sub-headings which reflect Burton's progress through the leagues (e.g. non-league period/league football, or maybe pre-conference/conference/league 2/league 1/championship). Another possibility is to present the history by manager (e.g. Clough era, Pesch era etc.). Perhaps some combination of the two would work as well?Jamesbuchanan (talk) 12:59, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

11,000 as the record number of away fans at Old Trafford?[edit]

Really? Everton brought 14,000 for the cup-tie in 1957; City brought 13,000 for the cup-tie in 1987; Forest brought 13,000 for the cup-tie in 1989. I don't care that the source is the BBC: it's incorrect. Scherben808 (talk) 23:51, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
