Alumni[edit]

Since there was an attempt at removing the list of meet alumni, I'll respond here. The list is not arbitrary, or uninformed. All of those individuals listed are notable individuals, as defined by Wikipedia standards. There are a few red links, primarily articles that I, or other editors have not yet written. As they exist today, those include Robert Bonds, Edesel Garrison, who starred in the NFL, George Mattos was a 2 time Olympian [1], Gentry Bradley was an American champion and silver medalist at the 1998 IAAF World Cup results and a gold medalist at Athletics at the 1997 Summer Universiade, Kuller has been long remember for his participation at USC in the World Record 4x110 yard relay that still stands today [2] among other accomplishments, Michael Granville and Natalie Kaaiawahia were both high school national record holders (Granville still is). All the rest are blue linked, with almost every one of them also including their direct reference back to the CIF California State Meet, meaning that there is no error in name attribution between the results and the proper individual referred to in the notable article. This alumni list works two ways. A lot of these people exhibited their early athletic ability at this meet and thus the meet's importance in the chain of events for all these individuals establishes its own importance. Conferred notability does not apply here. The fact that they have their own Wikipedia articles does not justify inclusion on the list, because no criteria was given for even why there should be this list to begin with. The fact that these athletes have run at this event is a tenuous connection at best; at worst, it's WP:LISTCRUFT, which is actually what it is. Guess where future star track and field athletes in the United States exhibit their athletic abilities prior to becoming world-class athletes? HIGH SCHOOL MEETS. Every state in the country has them, and yes, they happen to showcase their athleticism at these high school events - that's what they're for. It does not justify arbitrarily saying "here's a bunch of people who once upon a time participated in a California track meet, oh and by the way they may or may not even be notable track athletes". WP:OR, WP:LISTCRUFT, etc. Take this to ANI.... no really, do. Jrcla2 (talk) 22:42, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
